Baja/buggy mud tyres?
droopz - December 2nd, 2005 at 01:14 PM

What kind of options do I have in regards to offroad/mud tyres to fit on 14" rims?

make some man.

find some old 7 ot 8 inch cruiser white spokers whose rim will match the centres you got then cut and clean so both will match. then bolt centres on hub and slide rim over to get off set then tack, drop buggy and check through susp travel, then jack up again and finish welding taking note of balance by spinning wheel between welds. then drive. trusting it with your life (just like the weld that holds the rear of the pan to the front of the pan. haha)

(dicklaimer, for off road buggies only. not for road buggies. use professionally made wheels like from custom off road or Mr Psychobugger for road use.) haha

Yokohama and Bridgestone make a 8.5x 14 tyre

helter if he has 14 inch centers then u couldnt weld them into 15 inch rims.

surely u could find a set of wide stock wheels pretty easy. they are always up for sale.

if not then u could still use helters approach and get some stock 4.5 inch bug rims and buy some blank 8 inch or whatever u want rims.

and go to a place that can reset offset in wheels and get them to change the centers.

i have 8.5 inch roh rims with 15 inch stock beetle centers in them on the rear of my car.

or u could buy some peco stars or similar from custom offroad.

it has been done. its a bit of mix and match but you may find the right rims that are 15" rim diam but with a rim well that takes a 14" vw centre. go to a big wrecking yard with tape measure. you'd be surprised with the options available.

or, if your in the hood and cant find some cheap 2nd handies, goto psycho or COR

Also there's a much better range of off road style tyres available in 15" due to it being a more common 4WD size, which would probably, in the long run, save you money over the option of trying to source out a harder to find 14" tyre...
Good luck...

Good Year make the Wrangler TG in a 14 inch. They have an aggressive mud tread. I have them on the front of my buggy.

I don't have any good pictures of the tyres at the moment but you can see the tread in this photo.

try searching on the tyre manufacturers websites. you would be surprised howmany people make them (mainly for small jap 4wd's I guess)
