Need help. Baja kit bonnet not sitting flush. !!
bajachris88 - April 3rd, 2006 at 08:02 PM

Ok, got car, 69 Ball joint IRS semi auto bug.

Have a bug eyed baja kit.

Took off guards, off stock bonnet, put on bug eyed bonnet, and the bottom of the bonnet goes out a bit wide, to the point where the edge of the bonnet does not sit flush with the bonnet seam/rubber wateva u wanna call it.

Is it suppose to be like this. Or is the thing just not right?

Don't worry too much about it Chris... It's only a baja after all... Not as though you're building a show car or anything...
Mine has big gaps up around the top on the sides, no big deal...
Once it's on there and all painted up, no one will really spot it (except everyone on here coz you told us all  )...
Unless it's a huge gap, then just bend the front a little before you fit the nose cone...

Looking Good btw

is a glove box lid on e-bay for u 1 bid 2 days or less to go chris

Anthiron - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:17 PM

ha ha.....if i ever meet you, you can have a look at my car and see if u see anything that sits "flush" or "square"

dont stress dude.

my bonnet is exactly the same.

bajachris88 - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:17 PM

hey bernie, watup mate, long time no talk.

Guess what, just came back from my best mates 18th birthday, and besides the long story of fun and how i made my mates jaw drop in awh while i was drifting so naturally (for the first time) in an offroad buggy that they owned, i ended up coming home with a glove box lid and hinges that I just fitted on yesterday.

Howeva, am looking for another pair of front offroad wide eyed baja guards, and a nob for the glove box :P As well as a horn button of some sort that would fit the 67 baja sports steering wheel u gave me.

Anthiron - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:19 PM

once u cut the front off.

try gently bending the sides out ever so slightly.

if your nose cone matches the bonnet then when u bolt it on with luck it will pull the sides out a little anyway but dont expect it to be perfect.

bajachris88 - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:22 PM

will give it a go. If anything goes pear shaped, its an excuse for a buggy :P

Was just a little worried for a second, but its good to see its not something retarded with the car.

cheers mate. :D

It would be great to have this thing on the road for klub fest. Didn't see u there last yr nick. Spose its not that big to be coming from ur way though.

hmm, dats another prob i gotta talk about, got some rust around the bolt holes for the fenders. Will have to start a thread for help in that.

karmen - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:24 PM

only got a kombi one 62 mm dia but is a collector
u had a dash horn button in blue
and i can give u another if u want

the sports ones usually have a cover not a button.
the glove box lid on ebay may have the button /do u want the lock
ooooh hard to get ..only got one half off it
check e-bay was on $258 last i see....

bajachris88 - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:27 PM

Did I?

what did it look like? where bouts on the dash was it?

It wasn't that button near the feet was it?

Anthiron - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:28 PM

post a pic of the rust chriss

bajachris88 - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:30 PM

is it legal to have horn buttons on the dash?

or anywhere else besides hte wheel?

will get pics of rust in morning, for yas all to see.

i just wonder how i am to patch it up right so the bolts can still 'thread in'. worst senarios are, like always, in the most hard to access place, (THE A PILLAR :( )

However, the door mounts aren't rooted. so there is still structural integrity. Got 2 spare lower door mount panels anyways, but they don't rap around far enough for the fender bolts.

i dunno......mines under the dash tho.

bajachris88 - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:35 PM

i got hte air horns button on the dash. might as well do the same for the standard horn. seeing there will be no mount for the standard horn anymore.

Will be a million more times easier then fabricating a nice polished plate with a decent looking button in the middle.

Anthiron - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:37 PM

chris i suggest you keep this car stock.

baja kit on....get approval for that. get the car registered as a baja bug and then do stuff like put air horns and big wheels and tyres and stuff on it.

u dont want anything at all on it that they are going to get you for.

bajachris88 - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:41 PM

K. Ur wisdom makes sense. On the bright side, the button for the horn is already mounted and sitting nicely. Just rewire it to a stock horn. :D

I still gotz my stock 4 star wheels. Should get registered easily then. Once i get a motor.

Think i should keep stock exhaust too?

Anthiron - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:42 PM

yes keep the stock exhaust untill its registered if u can....or u will have noise problems.

Anthiron - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:44 PM

u are lucky because u have a car that is pre ADR's but you still have to comply to noise limitations as far as i know

bajachris88 - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:48 PM

k.Cheers nick, u been a champ.

I really appreciate it, thanx mate.

karmen - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:49 PM

airhorns not legal
do later
too loud for the Law

chris the mtr outa Jink 58 beetle turns BUT no compression at all

looks neat but no guts. otherwise i would make u a deal.

lemme know when u are ready for a mtr and we will see.

bajachris88 - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:51 PM

no worries mate. can u U2U me some price indications (just some rough estimates to look up too :P). when ur ready.

hmm, wonder where i'm gonna mount all that auto tranny gear bolted under the rear fenders once I baja it.

Anthiron - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:56 PM

for a strong 1600 twinport complete. you would be looking at around 600 bucks.

woulda had one to sell to you but i sold it to Boozer.

Anthiron - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:58 PM

whats bolted under the guards?> ive never had a good look at a semi auto.

Volkswagenboy - April 3rd, 2006 at 09:59 PM

Has it got the vacuum diaphrams under the guards or something?
-Staggers.

bajachris88 - April 3rd, 2006 at 10:03 PM

theres something on the left, will get pics of rust and taht tommorrow, but theres like, on the right, from what i guess, a reservoir for auto tranny fluid :S, cause theres a pipe, leading into a 'thing' under the right guard where it has a cap and u pull it off with a stick that shows the level of red fluid.

karmen - April 3rd, 2006 at 10:04 PM

u can sell them chris
u tell me when u got dosh re mtr
much same as my first offer, mate

bajachris88 - April 3rd, 2006 at 10:10 PM

hmm, could sell them. but that means i gotta get off my ass, and do a manual conversion. Haha. Which means i gotta fit in a clutch tube, put in a good IRS box (costs money :( )

yup, i still got ur emails refering to the offer.
U still interested in wanting back that 1300 too?

subibaja - April 5th, 2006 at 04:29 PM
