There was one for sale on ebay a few months ago. I've seen a couple of them at swap meets and pass one on the road every now and then. And then there's mine which still has a fair way to go to be finished.

So yes there are a few victorian bajas out there.:thumb

There are some pics on my website here. The're a bit out of date as I haven't updated in a while. And ignore the stuff about the diesel conversion, I've long since decided against that option.
If you go here you'll get an idea of what the finished product may look like (I'm still a little bit undecided on the whole camo thing for the moment).

that's not bad! that baja (military look) has'nt got a body kit huh? was it all hand made? i'm just curious coz i'm thinking off getting a cheetah kit

I'm pretty sure that baja just has an ordinary 7 piece kit on it.

I like the look of the cheetah kit, that's the way i'd go if I was going to use a fiberglass kit.

The guards on my baja will be all metal, the fronts will be cut down original guards and the rears will be based on another set of front guards kinda like the ones in the baja bug & buggies book.

Yes it'll be a little heavier, but the extra strength will be nice.
I'm working on the front at the moment, so it will be a while before I get to do the rears. I'll keep you posted on the results.:thumb

I'm not sure what you mean, do you have a link or a pic of one of these kits? A fiberglass kit, if that's what you mean, would be easier and quicker than the way that I'm doing it.

what about the rear (tubes) i saw some that came as part of a kit but i don't know if it's worth getting a customised one?

Oh, you mean the engine cage/rear bumper. I guess it depends on what you want it to look like. There are some good pre-fab cages out there, you can get them second hand if you ask around.

As for the empi stuff, I haven't had any first hand experience with thier products. If you do a google search, you should find plenty of info.

is it worth converting the engine to unleaded?

Well, there's nothing to convert really. The vw engine should do just fine on unleaded, as long as the octane rating is right i.e as long as it doesn't ping. The handbook for my vw (a '71) says 91 is the minimum rating nessacery, which is what most standard unleaded is.

G'day

Just wanted to poke my head in and say that i am a Vic Baja owner. well currently a half a baja. Shouldnt be too long. Would be great for all the bajas to get out for a day trip. Anyways, theres also another baja i know of nicknamed 'Flynn i think'. hes in the vw club of vic.

With the unleaded, im pretty sure that you need hardened valves.

being alloy heads the valve seats are already hardened so the only thing you may need to do is play around with the jetting to tune it on unleaded (they seem to flat spot out of roundabouts) even running 98 octane unleaded
