Stop that damn humming noise (no more mudders)
Baja Wes - January 3rd, 2007 at 10:18 PM

Well, I could take the noise of my mud tyres no longer. I've gone out and put all terrains on my car.

I had BFG mudders for a while, they were great. But I replaced them when they still had heaps of tread left.

I replaced them with a full set of MTR's. They were great to start with. Quiet on the road, excellent in mud and offroad.

But as they wore they got worse. Started losing grip in the wet, but the main problem was the noise. Oh the noise. The fronts are still ok, about 80% tread. In fact I am trying to sell those;

They were noisy cos of the weird wear pattern on the rear. The V6 was giving them a hard time.

But now I have gone to Bridgestone D694 all terrains, and wow it's quite again :). It does look a little softer though. :(

I am going to put the rear mudders onto a spare set of rims, just in case I wanted to still go somewhere muddy :)

whats happening Wes,

First the mudders, then staying in a motel at the BEACH run, soon, it'll be back to a 1500SP vw with an automatic:P

The 1500SP is noisier, so would be a step backwards.

But the auto, I like that idea :)

I think it's the whole cushy baja thing. First up you want a roof, then real windows, then a stereo you can here, then climate controlled air con. And now you want quiet tyres. May as well buy the zimmer frame and the bifocals now. While you're at it, trade the sport bike in for a goldwing and the beetle for an Avalon. :P

Just goes to show, should have got a buggy in the beginning. :yes:

well I had an excellent time up the beach trip. The drive up it rained, sun, rain, sun, rain the whole way. I didn't care, It was a lovely 24 deg C the whole way up in the Baja :)

The tyres were quiet, and handled heaps better on the road. We could talk at regular levels at 110kph and hear each other :)

And you get a lot less sand in the car when the windows are up most of the time. Plus when your stuck behind other cars on dusty dirt roads it doesn't bother you at all and you don't get dirt up your nostrils. So call me soft if you will, I know your all really just jealous :P
