any ideas?
contact matty 64 as he has some coil overs for sale ,im getting a set for my baja ,they should be good for yours as well ,what year model is your baja ?
Lots of ride height and plastic bushes!
mine is a 1969
I wouldn't go for coil overs, they make the suspension too stiff.
I would look at beam adjusters for the front and I would adjust the preload on the rear torsion bar to make sure that you are using the full
suspension travel. Apart from that, I would look at getting some decent shocks like Bilsteins or Konis if you can afford them.
A VW will go along way off-road with just a modest lift of teh suspension: You will need to modify (cut and weld) the front beam with Selecta-drops
and lift the rear suspension by adjusting the torsion bars, as oulined in a service manual (ie Gregories/Haynes etc)
Add some knobby tyres and voila! :thumb
i really like what Sandy has got at the front. what is it?

sandy has a king and link beam which is raised and he runs longer than stock trailing arms (illegal)........but yeah i like it too
im running a country buggy front and raised irs rear..........it aint a baja tho
ha yes illegal stuff. it's beautiful though. i can't remember wher i saw the pic but nice.
does a narrowed beam means you can use wider tires? (i know it's useless for a baja to have wide front tires)
Here is a pic of Sandy's front end, and my thing type 181 front end. I think the thing is the best option.
so sandy's suspention is actually illegal? so wes... what's the differance beteenw yours and snady's? i mean looks like sandy's got more clearance?

Wes runs stock VW parts.Sandy doesn't. The 181 and IRS combo would be the best IMO,stock legal parts and ample travel with street drivability.

What he said
I also run mine at standard height, it's not raised. I have my adjusters set in their lowest position.
This gives better steering (less bump steer) as all the steering geometry is still stock.
is it true that you have to modify(lengthen) the frame head to run longer arms??? and can you run long arms on a thing front end legality doenst
concern me as its all good here

Yes you have to lengthen the frame head or the tyres will smack into the body when the suspension compresses. I don't know if anyone makes long arms for ball joint.
hm thanks guys all is good help.
i got a 1969 100 so i would need to convert to irs ... how much does it take to do all that? irs- 181suspention.
what does it take to tranfer a thing front? also what shocks are recomanded?
