baja burley - September 12th, 2008 at 09:11 PM

do they make baja kits for superbugs??? if so how much and where do i get one??

RISKYBUG - September 13th, 2008 at 06:38 PM

i dont think there are any
the rear end you can cut up but the front is bad news for baja

RISKYBUG - September 17th, 2008 at 06:40 PM

anyone else??
if it's not going on road then cut up the back and cut the front guards so you can put big rims on
anyone know of a way to make the front end stronger on a sbug??...with out going to a beam!!

Cut the bulk head off and weld a ball joint or link pin bulk head on.
Like this thing

Not many Super-based Bajas around, but using a non-strut chassis under a Super body blends the 'best' bits from factory VW components for off-road use

HOWEVER with a nice, soft, long-travel spring (a la Nissan Pathfinder) I reckon a coil-springer would be pretty good too!

Joel - September 18th, 2008 at 06:50 PM

that bugs LHD so yeah its probably a yank car

theres a super baja bug in volkswagen australia #1 that appears to cop a severe thrashing off road

but easiest way around it like jace said just convert to beam front end

enough ppl around are doing now

RISKYBUG - September 18th, 2008 at 08:41 PM

hi joel
that looks like a nice convertion
where is it from?

baja burley - September 19th, 2008 at 01:32 PM

what mods do you have to make to mount the beam or does it just bolt straight on

Joel - September 19th, 2008 at 03:08 PM

that ones actually a super body on a standard floorpan but the end result is the same as fitting a beam bulk head and bolting up a BJ beam

theres a bit of work in the change over
gotta take the body off remove the strut bulkhead and weld in a beam one

it would need to be done with a jig i imagine cos u wouldnt wanna be out at all otherwise u would end up with a bug that crabs down the road

ill have a dig around over the weekend see if i can find volkswagen australia #1 and ill scan the artical cos i havent seen it for probably 10 years so cant remember how he built it

baja burley - September 19th, 2008 at 09:48 PM

cheers

ang3lsholocaust - September 20th, 2008 at 12:37 AM

Yeah the yellow one above is a yank car.
Just pointing out how you could do it if you really wanted to.
Would be far easier doing it with a regular beam beetle then a super bug.

... don't forget the wheelbase difference...

Joel - September 20th, 2008 at 08:30 PM

is there a difference Glenn?

i just know of a few superbug floor pans fitted with beam bulk heads and standard bodies or left with a super body as per the red vert i posted above
its a 71 super body on a 69 floor pan

matberry - September 20th, 2008 at 08:36 PM

Put a beam in and a one piece bonnet and guards if it has the flatter screen

baja burley - September 22nd, 2008 at 05:25 PM

what can i do to the strut system to strengthen them without doing any major chopping and replacing??
