I have a question re: Manx Mania editor
How many of these have to go out a year?
What format are they in?
Is the editor responsible for publishing/printing/distributing????

Hi,
Ok there are 4 Manx Mania's that go out a year. These will take the USA Manx Mania which has one Aussie Article in it and add some others releasing
it under the Manx Mania Downunder.
Format is anything you like, we just save it as a PDF. We have used Word, Publisher, Quarke and a few others. Current template is in Publisher from
memory.
The new webiste includes upload and storage of the Manx Mania's and members can log on and down load these when they want so these will be in PDF.
As far as publishing/printing/distributing goes I think that would be up to the Editor to decide what suits them. In the past the Editors have taken
care of this in several different ways.
When we first started in 2001 Jen and I use to print them out on the laser printer, bind them, package them and post them When we hit 50 plus it
became to much so we contracted it to Kwik Copy.
The Kwik Copy option was great, send them a PDF and then pick up a box of Manx Mania Downunders a few weeks late, pop them in an envelope and away you
went.
Problem here was cost. At around $6 ea plus postage of an A4 envelope it cost about $8 a mag which made it $32 a year. Add insurance and a few other
club overheads and that was pretty much every members fees gone.
So we then went to the A5 size to get it cheaper and reduce the paper needed. The A5 ones where then printed in various ways in an attempt to get the
costs down.
So there you go I hope that helps you. If you want more info MikeM is the current editor and maybe be able to shed light on any current issues.

Go on Ducky, you know you want to....

As a previous/current editor I can say we are trying to reduce the workload of the editor in the new setup. Basically as I see it their job will be to
liaise with the US editor to get the US version, add any additional Aussie content (run sheet, treasurers report) and arrange printing.
Brad mentioned the possibility of distributing via PDF. I'm not sure this is a great idea. We've had the facility to do this for a few years but
I've elected not to do it as it makes it to easy to distribute/email onto non-members etc. While technically you could photocopy the printed one most
people won't bother. And if it's printed it's easier to read on the bus and leave on the coffee table for others to read. Mates will see and want
to know how to get a copy and so they will join the club too etc.

Okay I am thinking of how I can contribute and weighing that up against my heavy work commitments and studying.(aaaahhhhhh!!!!). I enjoyed writing
articles previously, just don't know if I have time for the whole gig?? Mike are you interested in staying in the position??? or are you stepping
down?? Is this a job that could be done by 2 people??? (just thinking out loud)
Anyway leave it with me to think over

Maybe there is the option to have a couple of Assistant editors. Or have a publishing officer as well as the editor so the editor could put it
togeather and the publishing officer could take care of prinint and distribution.
On the electronic front, I hear what you are saying, it is just, well I sort of keep looseing my Manx Mania's and it would be great if I could log
onto the Manx Club Site and download another copy .. or maybe they should get sent to my Wife.. then I would be fine ..

I like the suggestion of 2 people this may make the job much easier for the editor , having a person dedicated to publishing/distribution makes a lot
of sense.
Cheers

After much consideration and in the spirit of supporting the buggy community I would like to put my name forward for the editor's job, if it is the
writing and composing. editing slice of the job. And all I have to do is collect and compile articles and send to another officer to do the other
stuff ie: distribute, print etc etc...........
As far as the spellin is concernd in't thart what spell check is 4???? as my typign is way wrorse then me spellin not to mentin me gramer

I put this post in the manxclub forums, but thought some of the other VW followers might be interested in seeing some buggy pics>>>
I bought a new camera late last year (Canon 450D), so I was messing around with different lenses and settings at the AGM. The only problem was, only 4
club cars were there as everyone else took the soft options
These look better BIG!

They were removed to show people more detail on how it fits. It was like a mini tech talk prior to the AGM.
Good for me as I will be doing the conversion soon.
