Just wondering how common is this? And has anybody on this forum done the super bug Baja conversion??
All projects that I have read about use the torsion front suspension body,
I picked up a 71 super (with a good body) for the IRS for my current 63 baja
but I am keen to build Mk II from scratch while still using my 63 as a daily driver. I was thinking about doing the full one piece nose and trimming
the body all the way back to the fire wall, similar to Phils Baja (also on this forum) similar bar work too.
I have another King and link pin front clip that I will adapt to the super pan and I'm off for an 8 hour trip to Port Macquarie Tomorrow night to
pick up a country buggy front end that I bought
So if there are no nasty surprises that anybody can shed light on with the super bug body idea then I have all of the basic ingredients to start Mk
II
So back to the original Question are there any hurdles that make this body conversion more trouble than it's worth
Go for it I reckon, the front bulkhead is slightly different, so keep the bukhead on the pan to match the body, and graft a framehead forward of that. Gives you a chance to sneak a little more wheel base too. I've been planing on heading this way myself, but with a twist....
By bulk head, I take it you mean the section of frame head directly under the fire wall / main body upright in front of the pedals
Can I ask what twist are you planning?
Yes that part is wider (front to rear) with the bolts in a slightly different location.

My Baja is on a '72 Super pan.
But with an early body. I welded a new king and link framehead onto it.

I saw your build Smiley, you've done a great job,
I also intend to use the 71 super pan with the frame head swap but I am also
going to use the super body with the front quarter panels and inner guards removed
and covered with a one piece fibreglass front end
I took my family for a down to Port Mcquarrie (1600km round trip) on wednesday
and thursday to pick up a complete country buggy front end for the new build (never going that far again) but at least I now have one.
The first Baja I built about 8 years ago just got a front cut and twist.
Anyhow can anybody tell me where I can buy bushes/bearings/brakes etc to suit country buggy
the front I picked up is in good shape but I thought I might try to source some spares to have on hand.
also I'll be looking for an engine adapter set up shortly not sure what engine I'm going with yet though
not sure if I should go with injection or a tough old school carby engine just for
simplicity

I don't know of any specialist VW parts supliers do you know of a
good suplier here in south east Queensland?
