tell everyone its a posties car you might be able to get away with having no doors then ;)

otherwise get it going and leave it as is, that way if you change youre mind later its no biggie

pod - September 2nd, 2004 at 10:02 PM

yep say its a special model of the doormobile variety;)
and to rat and enjoy is all up to you, just look at me and my bug, was only going to fix up patches but now its a respray in and out:)

*did* - September 3rd, 2004 at 02:05 PM

oh yes you must.
lower it and put on some polished wheels.
maybe a bit of faded signwriting on it would be nice too :)

65busser - September 3rd, 2004 at 04:25 PM

Robo - September 3rd, 2004 at 04:31 PM

Rob...

57 Panel - September 3rd, 2004 at 05:23 PM

It's had a hard life but it's a country bus. the floors , lower nose , sills and outriggers are all good. It just needs alot of panel work. Here's a front pic.

ColumBUS - December 3rd, 2004 at 09:40 PM

dude its gotta be restored

do what u want to the panels but restore the splits we need as many of them as possible in good condition and lookin good!

*did* - December 4th, 2004 at 01:17 PM

you can rat something and it will still last, you just need to make sure that you stop the rust and preserve the look.
i think rat look is cool

frenzix - December 5th, 2004 at 04:50 PM

you have two options, do a proper restore and spend $30K on it at least or rat the hell out of it and only spend a few $K

t2 - December 5th, 2004 at 07:03 PM

around 1k on rubbers , a rat needs some nice after market rims probably 1500 to $2000 with tyres then it will need to be lowered adjustable front end guessing $600 then straight axle or irs another $1000 plus g box, then a rat isnt a rat without some big power so atleast a nice 1776 another 3 to 5k depending on how lucky you are ,then the rust still has to be done i dont know how well you can weld then you have to make the paint look original and oh with that extra power the brakes need to be looked at so the price goes up, who wants a spring in their ass so a bodge job on the seats has to be done
id say for a true rat you could do it for around 12k,for 15 to 20k you could do a resto yourself on it , just my 2 cents

byronbus - December 5th, 2004 at 08:23 PM

Rat for sure, would look sweet, anyone can resto a bus or pay someone to, but not everyone can have an original paint bus...rat is my opinion

frenzix - December 5th, 2004 at 08:47 PM

12K is one healthy rat!

Stealth - December 6th, 2004 at 09:14 PM

Rat the bloody thing!!!! It must be done....;)

57 Panel - January 17th, 2005 at 07:20 PM

I'm going to pick it up soon so the decision will be made then.:bounce

CAPPO - January 17th, 2005 at 07:29 PM

rat for a while,then paint it later.:bounce

Freddie Fender - January 17th, 2005 at 08:17 PM

Rat is definitely appealing.
You can always paint it later.

57 Panel - January 17th, 2005 at 09:34 PM

57 Panel - May 18th, 2005 at 07:43 AM

How have you been. I haven't picked up the bus yet, it's still sitting on the farm. I'm trying to get the single cab done. Hows the oval going. I've seen it around town. Looking good.

byronbus - May 18th, 2005 at 10:15 AM

Where is it? I'll go get it, you can have a drive, maybe even have some weekend privileges...

57 Panel - May 18th, 2005 at 11:54 AM

This bus has spent it's whole life in the bush, it's beaten up but rust wise it's in great shape. This bus is staying with me. Sorry Bruce.

VWFOOL - May 18th, 2005 at 03:01 PM

57 Panel - May 18th, 2005 at 06:21 PM

57kombi - May 18th, 2005 at 06:34 PM

Just seen this post and T2's comments are the best I have seen regarding rats.

Cheers
Dave

57 Panel - May 18th, 2005 at 07:13 PM

He's right. All I'd save compaired to a full resto is the money for the paint job. That's why I'm not making any choices till I get it home.

Adam....
