ok does any one know how much to do a chopped bug? ,
Like the sheriff rat rod and the others?just the roof and glass etc i now its a big job and all that but im sure wed all like to know
hehehehe.... mine's chopped and in the garage!
gonna take my sweet time finishing it and let all the "cookie-cutter-never-been-interested-in-rods-before-but-this-is-the-new-thing" be over and
done with before bringing it out to the world...
how much does it cost.... a shit load if you get someone who knows what they are doing...
most people won't get it right so expect it to be done at least twice. unless you go to a panel shop who do real fabrication and modification on a
daily basis.
go buy yourself a copy of ultra vw issue 13 and read the article in there.
com to the shootout and ask alison she ownes the hoodlem chop top
hey ovaltine. you gotta chop your roof into about eight sections. cause as you lower it to the body it needs to be widened. you ve got to section the roof out, and the fill it to keep teh shape. is alot of work.
I have several full sets of instructions. u2u me and I'll let you know about them. I am in the process of repairing a "professional" job that wasn't done well.
yeah ultra vw 13 ill order it , and ive seen hoodlem "nice"
but didnt see it today or know who alison is thanks for feedback.
Another way I've seen is a sloped top where a wedge is cut out of the rear pillar then a bit more from the centre pillar then more from the windscreen pillars then when it's all pushed down you spend the next month or so aligning it all up. When I've worked out how to post pictures I'll put up shots of a couple from years ago, it's not as bad as it sounds. Tell me what looks better than a chopped roof other than a chopped roof that's also been deseamed!

if you want to chop there's an article by Keith Seume
explaining "how to" with the two-roofs method.

It's a lot easier than when you cut the roof in many pieces like I tried:
