Bommer seats?
roofchop - June 15th, 2012 at 11:16 AM
What's the go regarding bommer style seats in NSW?
I have heard about covers etc, what are the guidelines?
Thanks
Dave

If you make your own seats then you would have to get them approved to ADR specs, which would be very expensive.

Bomber!
roofchop - June 15th, 2012 at 04:34 PM
Rather cunningly I just stripped the original seats and kind of skinned them in alloy, then had new bases made and cut holes in the back rest.
So maybe I can convince my engineer man they are OG!
They aint real bommers but look coolish
I will take some pics tomorrow

I actually like them, the idea is there, just needs a bit more tweaking and I think they will look great. I like the fact that they are not the same
as all the others.
Speedway sell them ... http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-Aluminum-Bomber-Seat,4043.html
A few other styles....

there use to be a number you could ring and speak to the boys who dealt with the mods day in day out. but the number has disappeared off the site
since they became rms instead of rta.
best be speak to the local guy doing the blueslips and see whos direction he points you in.

Nah, only slowly getting there. Financial barriers holding me up at the moment. Currently getting my 1935 ford wires changed to be
JJ compliant (safety rims) by a wheel specialist and saving for all new front and rear disc brake kits by Volksconversions with ford stud pattern. Volksconversions rotors are one of the few fully legal kits around as they are the
same thickness right round the casting allowing any bolt pattern.

Your car looks bloody fantastic

I have been asured that they do by John Sherman and as I said, are one of the few that actually do.
Volksconversion rotor rear view
others
As you can see above, due to the casting thickenings only a 4 stud pattern can ever be used with these rotors.

ive actually had a pair of drums from him start to fail after 500km on the car so i really dont have faith in him or his products. id ask for the
paperwork rather than take his word on it. being assured is one thing actually having the paperwork in your hand and having accepted by which ever
transport department is in your state is another.

This is not a good winter thread.
I am seeing all those seats and can only think how cold they would be in the morning.
Maybe I've gone soft

I think I read somewhere that bommer seats need covers of some sort, that's why I started this thread.

Hey Vman, is your rear end fibreglass? Just I remember a kit in Pommyland called Wizzard (I think) that converted std bugs into something similar to
yours. It was in the eightys always thought they looked
cool.

Hey roofchopper,
Sorry for the thread highjack but how much did you remove for your chop? Looks great without being 2 crazy.
roofchop - June 22nd, 2012 at 07:44 AM
100mm or 4 inches, The most compex thing I ever did!, you need a spare roof, and lots of planning, then lots of time.
Makes me sick when I see people chopping a 32 ford or the likes, they just cut lower and weld job done!
Our cars are so curvey in every dimension the amount of work is 100 times more complex than a square car.
Still I love the look especially the back window.(even though I only took out 100mm the back window shrunk about 200mm because of the slope)
I would say unless you won the Lotto it has to be a DIY job as a body shop would charge many thousands of $$
Cheers

Cool, did you run a thread on your roof chop?
I'm thinking of doing a chop on a bunky 60's shell just to see how it goes.
Cheers

roofchop - June 22nd, 2012 at 03:42 PM
No thread.... but I do have a spare '64 roof, where are you?
And what does bunky mean??
Dave
goosey1812 - June 22nd, 2012 at 07:31 PM
I'm over the other side of oz from you, bunky means crappy, ie it does not really matter if it turns to crap.
