Its good that Chris is ok, bummer about the beetle though.

reub - April 8th, 2013 at 09:35 AM

Ouch.

Glad to see you ok, and hope the beetle didn't fair too bad...

Sides - April 8th, 2013 at 09:43 AM

Hmm, yeah... ouch doesn't quite cover it !!!

Glad you're OK dude - cars can always be rebuilt or replaced.

Rewatching the vid, seemed to be an "interesting" layout to those barriers...

SebastienPeek - April 8th, 2013 at 10:06 AM

Ouch is an understatement.

cnfabo - April 8th, 2013 at 10:48 AM

yes the barrier layout was fukin stupid and dangerous but no excuse to my average kooky atempt to bring it back....i backed off then it just gripped hard then well rest is history.....

i bent the beam, cage, chassis and well the car....ill post pics up later...

matberry - April 8th, 2013 at 10:59 AM

So sorry to see that happen Chris....major bummer dude. Glad your ok. I reckon the car is quite sore. :(

1303Steve - April 8th, 2013 at 11:08 AM

Hi

Bad luck, glad your OK, watching that video was nerve racking for me, I knew it wasnt going to end well but wasnt sure when to expect the crash.

I agree if those barriers were layed out differrently it would have been less of a hard stop.

Steve

Doug Sweetman - April 8th, 2013 at 11:21 AM

That sucks man, commiserations :(

vassy66T1 - April 8th, 2013 at 02:07 PM

That's a real shame Chris.

humpty - April 8th, 2013 at 02:19 PM

Chris was not his usual self when he called me yesterday... Understandably shaken, and sad, but mostly pissed with himself... The car sounds pretty bad, but I have not seen it yet... Hopefully later in the week I'll get to his place for a look.... The cage and drivetrain should be salvaged hopefully, but the pan, body and suspension is pretty much poked so Chris tells me.... Chris called me just a moment ago with news that a new and improved sedan is in the planning already, with a replacement car possibly already found.

Good on ya mate.... Get back on that horse.

sander288 - April 8th, 2013 at 02:25 PM

:sniffle::sniffle::sniffle:

Sorry to see this; all the best with the new build though!

VWMA Editor - April 8th, 2013 at 06:14 PM

Unlucky Chris, because those concrete barriers are positioned wrong. Had they been continued along as a straight line as they were earlier in the corner, you may have minimised the damage. Having a lose means you were trying, but you didn't need to be penalised with poor track layout.

colin - April 8th, 2013 at 07:50 PM

Sorry to hear and see your accident Chris real shame.
Definately been down the road your on.
If i can help from over here in any way please ask.

Cheers Col

cnfabo - April 8th, 2013 at 08:01 PM

Thanks for the kind words everyone I really appreciate it :)...

I'm hoping I find another good "cheap"roller over here to transfer everything over to!

I will post some pics up when my laptop decides to behave itself and work like it should

Dead bug Fabo....

PAZZAN - April 8th, 2013 at 08:15 PM

not nice but as they say thats racing .Hope to see you back on the track soon..:sniffle::sniffle:

Stanley - April 8th, 2013 at 08:20 PM

Chris from a guy who doesn't like corners and only likes straights 1/4 mile long I was impressed with the footage and sound of your car. Regardless of your vw racing genre any crash is hard to watch. All the best with version 2 of your car. Just glad you're ok.

my sentiments exactly , great to hear Chris that you are already looking at another build and all the best with it . If there is anything that we can assist you with dont hesitate to ask .

Craig Torrens - April 8th, 2013 at 08:49 PM

You will have a new bug built in no time :tu:

HappyDaze - April 8th, 2013 at 09:03 PM

Did they re-position those barriers after that, Chris?........they should have.

Pity you're so far away, otherwise I could give you a hand to 'straighten it out'.

Don't worry, you'll have it sorted soon enough.....let me know if I can help in any way.

Cheers, Greg

Nope they put it straight back up " diagonal to the road"

Pity you're so far away, otherwise I could give you a hand to 'straighten it out'. Guys like u amaze me how you can straighten stuff like this out!!

Don't worry, you'll have it sorted soon enough.....let me know if I can help in any way.

Honestly it might take a while. We have just bought our first place, so have to settle in, change a few things and get my man cave ready but meanwhile I'll be on the lookout

Oh boy.... Looks like there is gonna be a busy bee or two at your place over winter!

dangerous - April 9th, 2013 at 07:36 AM

Man, big hit dude.:sniffle:
Glad you are not hurt!

Craig Torrens - April 9th, 2013 at 08:26 AM

Faaaark....I thought it was just the front corner, not the whole damn side !

matberry - April 9th, 2013 at 08:29 AM

She's fooked! :( :( :(

Doug Sweetman - April 9th, 2013 at 09:55 AM

This, my friends, is why you never scrimp on the safety gear.... To take a hit like that and walk away is testament to the build quality and safety gear Chris has put in.

Heartbreaking stuff though.... :(

X2

Holy crap - looked a big enough hit in the vid, let alone seeing the after pics !!!

Feel for ya dude, but again is great that all the safety gear did it's job and you weren't hurt.

And yeah - as others have said - give us a shout if anything can do from over here on 'tother side...

:tu:

Gracey - April 9th, 2013 at 07:17 PM

Ouch!! That was a hard hit.

That sucks however cars are much cheaper to fix than humans, glad you're ok.

On a bright note the motor sounds crisp!!

BrisDubba - April 10th, 2013 at 09:34 AM

I saw the damage photos before watching the video - those barriers certainly aren't very forgiving as I didn't think it would be that bad.

Which event was this - appeared to get a bit more track time than at some events
