Mk1 Mako formula V info wanted. + F V tuning in general
whatnow - April 15th, 2004 at 09:42 AM

does anyone out there have info on Mk1 Mako formula V's?

any info apreciated. but i am particularly interested in whether they originaly used a leaf spring (camber compensator style), coilovers or both for rear springing when new. plus what is the deal with the cables on the back end? i gather they are used to stop +ve camber on the back end but how are they supposed to be fitted, plus how do you use them to tune the back end?

did FV's run an internal swaybars in the mid 70's? plus if i need to mod the spring rates, how many leaves should i run. motorkhana with (hopefully) at least 50% more power than a standard 1200V motor and me at 95kg.

anyone have info/photo's of a mk1 mako (painted purple at some stage) that lived in the eastern suburbs of syd and did most/all of it racing at randwick (or wherever that track was).

thanks.

henry.

You need to speak to John Fab from the FVee assoc he knows more about old vees than anybody else around. He has produced a CD with hundreds of old Vee photos that he has unearthed. There are scans of an article from some car mag in 1970 about my car being assembled then a couple of photos of it racing.

He also has a lot of parts plus he tracked down the original body mold for my car as well. The guy is a fountain of knowledge.

Go onto the national FVee site and have a look at the classifieds and you wil find an ad for his CD.....it is well worth buying.

Mate, my 72 Stag F/Vee runs the cable setup to stop the wheels tucking under, I havent driven any other vees to compare to, but mine handles perfectly. I will get it out tomorrow and take some photos for you, the photos will make it easier to understand..
