Hey everyone,
Here's the last pics I expect to see of my car before it is reborn in arctic silver. These pics are the final fitup of the doors, guards, and
hood.
The panel work looks awesome. It is just so flat and smooth, and the lines are perfect.
Enjoy!
Cheers,
Looks great man!
Dare you to leave in primer and go for a rat look. :P
But I spose ya flash wheels would give the game away, not mention the WPPSHH!!:thumb
Looking good , would love a workshop that big!
Dan
Looking rad dude, can't wait to see the finished product.
are they painting it with the doors ect on ??
Go the RAT look....
Here's a picture of the car (original '66 shell) a the moment. I took the left front guard off, as it was the best of the set I had to complete the
respray to the best level of quality.
I've been driving it around for about 3 months now with this guard on, as "was" tempted to change all 4 guards and the engine lid, as I have the
remaining set that match this one that is in primer... Too much work though.
But i've got to say though, FAST RAT's are great! I remember reading an article about a dark green bug that was full of rust and had rusted steel
wheels, but also had a 2380cc drag engine in it. It looked like crap, but would eat v8's for breakfast. It was running 11's or something, owned by
some vw mechanic apprentice, but the engine was shop owned.
As it is, the engine noise attracts enough attention, I don't want to get taken off the road, as for the moment with the structual rust having
completely eaten away the bottom of the drivers side pilar under the hinge, it would surely fail a RWC. Glad the new shel is only a few weeks
away.
I've also got the latest both pictures. Parts of the shell have been sprayed black now, so all that remains is the re-mask up, and many coats of
silver and clear!
The doors will be taken off for the final paint job. They were just fitted for the final fitup to make sure nothing was mised and it's all looking
sweet.
Cheers,

Keep us posted

hee hee I like his boots .
how many coins to paint like this ?
hey you live in cairns im coming up there on thursday thats kool
there is hope yet of me see some dubs around up there :P
Hey Everyone,
Yet another update to the shell. This time the under side of the car has been sprayed. Also inside the doors, quarter panels, inside the guards.
As for the $$$ factor, it will have cost about $6200, but i did the strip down and will be doing the rebuild. Also I know the panel beater, he's into
VW's in a BIG way (drives a manx), and he's kind of taken it on as a "project show car". As he told me "I do a respray like this once every 5
years or so".
How lucky am I!! He's said there is about $3-4K that will not apear on my invoice because of the nature of the project. About 3 months in the making
so far...
Anyway, without further delay.... the picuture updates.....
Another picture...
The last one till the final respray!
Is it getting painted at Smithfield Smash Repairs???????
Yep, Mick and Kymmie at smithfield smash are doing the respray.
fark!!! how shiny is the underside of the fender!! sweet
man that is crazy underneath those guards that is sweet work. mine is in its second coat of fill at the moment. you are lucky about your painter i just sacked mine and have decided to go it on my own because they just weren't into the way i wanted them to be. betterr to spend the money on the gear and know ive done the job the way i like although this now means a total rethink of my plans, now going the satin volksrod look. but yours sure does have me envious.
Sorry to hear you had to sack your panel beater. I've also often had nothing but problems in the past when I'd been having work done on my car by a
3rd party or company. I made it clear from the start with my panel beater that I wanted a top qualtiy job, and they've exceeded my expictations. It
helps having known them for years as well as Mick that owns the company is also a VW nutter like me.
Some people just don't get that we love our VW's more than life it self :kiss
Well here are the last pictures of the shell prior to its first coat of arctic silver. From looking at the mask up here I think they are painting the
inside of the car first, then they'll mask up again and do the main shell areas.
I get the shell back on thursday next week, so there will be another posting then of the car with the guards on in its final painted glory!

Very thorough by the looks of that.
Good luck with the result.
sorry to rob your post ,just seen the paper covering the car .
I import a plastic * charged * painters sheets all sizes from spain, has one side with the masking tape on , the sheets have a charge ,so it like a
magnet to steel , very good and I am looking for a reseller in the east coast .
dont know if your man has seen it , seagull
looking very good
No idea if Mick's seen them or not?
If your looking to distribute on a large scale you should do sample bags and send them to every panel beater in australia's yellow pages.
Just a suggestion...
Cheers,
ian
Here's the first shots of the car with some silver on it. The luggage compartment, engine bay and interior are all painted silver now. It looks dam
good too.
The outside of the car is being sprayed this coming week. I'll be picking up the shell on thursday, to spend the long weekend (in carins) re-wiring
and re-fitting out the car.
And here's a few pictures....
Another picture.
Looks awesome so far Ian..... You're going to have a killer bug at the end of this. :thumb
Look forward to seeing the finished product.
