Fast ? Yes? Prove it!
Dannyboy - July 1st, 2004 at 06:42 PM

Dyno sheets , bhp , engine size etc etc is all well and good but the proof is on the track. There's alot of talk about hot , fast cars but where are they , no good sitting at home!
Next year will we see more vw's racing in street/bracket racing at the drags? I am and will be running my 67 as much as possible. Who's thinking about hitting the 1/4 for some fun next year!!

Dan:)

VWCOOL - July 1st, 2004 at 07:04 PM

lol... drag racing is for clunkers that can't handle corners:P

Dannyboy - July 1st, 2004 at 07:11 PM

LOL , with 135's up front fast corners are a no-no for sure! You can keep your corners! Just give me 1/4 of a mile!

Dan:)

Rod Richardson's low 12sec beetle is racing again at the Nostalgia meeting at Willowbank!! ;)
Good air, hopefully it will be a good track.
Could he crack a 11 sec pass?

BiX - July 1st, 2004 at 07:34 PM

yep whats the point in a 1/4 mile, only test straight line speed, do some proper circuit racing (dirt of bitumen i don't care, they are both fun!!!)

AdrianH - July 1st, 2004 at 07:43 PM

Corners are for hiding around... or was that behind ?? hehehe

BiX - July 1st, 2004 at 08:01 PM

Hey great idea for ur drag guys (must be hard getting in and out of a race seat in a dress?) what about taking out the steering of ur car? reduces weight and that way something less you don't have to think about? ( well that leaves clutch, and thottle?)

Craig Torrens - July 1st, 2004 at 08:12 PM

Love your work BIX :thumb

Several class records, several Australian Titles, and Several State titles is enough Track proof for me and my VW;)

But yes the drags will be on the hit list for next year !

Dak-A-Tak - July 1st, 2004 at 11:05 PM

From racer to racer it dosen't matter what you race. In Australia the Vw scene is too small to crap on about what sport is better. Just think a little bit about where your money goes when you spend it on your car. When you do this you help keep the Vw scene alive and enthusiasm amongst all Vw people. We all should be supporting each other in some way or form. I've been drag racing for over 16 years and always in a Vdub. And the scene is no bigger than when I first started. Shame! Shame! Shame! If it wasn't for the like of Vw's I wouldn't have done it for so long. This is enough of a winge. Thanks Craig for the plug on the nostalgia drags on July 18, so far 3 Vdubs are racing, so anyone that likes Vdubs come along and support us.

Craig Paton - July 2nd, 2004 at 08:06 AM

Hey Pete

Who's the other 2 volksies racing at the nostalgia meet?
1 of them wouldn't be Dave would it??
The other 1 would have to be Wally!

I reckon I 'll be there!!

Craig.

i'll be running my '68 when i get the chance...don't know how well it will do, hopefully looking for 15s :)

Dannyboy - July 2nd, 2004 at 05:53 PM

The reason for the post was to try and find out if anyone is going to be drag racing their vw's , not really about what type of vw racing is the best. To coin a phrase it's " All Good". Drag racing is what does it for me. Just seems for whatever reasons so few cars are actually getting out on the strip which is a shame.
I shouldn't compare to other places but i will. Having come from the UK the drags ARE the biggest part of alot of shows. The difference is that EVERYONE has a bash at thrashing their cars , stock , tuned whatever. The line-up is full of cars , buses , buggies , etc. Okay watching 1300's racing isn't the most exciting racing but it's a good laugh and means that you actually get involved regardless of how big your motor or your ego/ wallet is.
Although my car won't be mega quick ( but reasonable) i'll be out there next year, another street driven bug giving it death then driving home!!
As for Drag racing V circuit racing V hillclimb V Offroad etc etc , who gives a shit. If it's got a vw engine in it , thats good enough for me.
Just hope to see more cars out on the strip next year having a go. If you haven't done it yet , do it! You won't wipe the smile off your face for weeks!

Dan:)

From the land of 135's and 6" slicks:)

LOWBUG - July 2nd, 2004 at 07:11 PM

I been out to WSID a few times now and I'll be back out there soon. All it does is make you spend more money, but its funny how you soon forget about it as soon as you lay down a new PB.

wacked1 - July 2nd, 2004 at 07:32 PM

can i stilll be included dannyboy seeing i don't have a vw engine???

Dannyboy - July 2nd, 2004 at 09:01 PM
