No load on the dif

AdrianH - July 4th, 2004 at 03:04 PM

Thats why LSDs are safer than spools, blow a CV and you dont hit the wall.

Craig Torrens - July 4th, 2004 at 03:36 PM

probably stuffed one of the metal plates in the diff, and the tension is now less.

seagull - July 4th, 2004 at 06:01 PM

Alex Holzl - July 4th, 2004 at 10:00 PM

Craig Paton - July 5th, 2004 at 10:31 AM

Hey Alex

If I were you I'd be pulling gearbox out and repairing it asap!
With a big engine, heaps of torque and a gearbox not quite rite. Too much to loose!

Cheers Craig Paton

Alex - email brucetweddle@canada.com - he sells a lot of ZFs and knows what its all about - you will at least get a definitive answer.

Alex Holzl - July 5th, 2004 at 07:38 PM

ok cheers mate

jakjones - July 5th, 2004 at 07:46 PM

it won't drive on one wheel , its not supposed to , thats why they call em limited slip, probably nothing wrong with it.
bruce Tweddle from Canada is no help, in fact he jerked me around with the dealings i had with him I urge all Aussies to steer clear of him.

I have several vws all with limited slip diffs.

dak dak ute - July 5th, 2004 at 07:50 PM

how do you fit an lsd out of a zf in??? sorry if i sound stupid

Easy there big fella !!!

I have had nothing but good experiences with Bruce, he has been extremely helpfull in all my dealings with him.

pete wood - July 12th, 2004 at 12:39 PM

are these centres made up specially for VW's or do you pick them up as a kit?

do they make them for 002 kombi boxes?

what sort of bucks are they?

pete wood - July 12th, 2004 at 11:43 PM

bump?

AdrianH - July 13th, 2004 at 02:44 PM

They were an option in trannys. Specifically for snowy or sandy countrys. The one that I have was in a T181 in mexico. Cost around 1300 bucks landed.

I have seen one for an 091 box, but could only assume they made them for 002s ???

pete wood - July 13th, 2004 at 07:56 PM

theoretically if they fit a 091 box they should fit a 002.

how did you get it and who did you get it from?

What's it like? did you buy it for offroad or onroad use?

How progressive is it?

AdrianH - July 13th, 2004 at 08:12 PM

I posted the guys name above, obviously not all people like him. brucetweddle@canada.com is the guy I bought mine from.

On road use. Was very touchy initially, but has since calmed down a lot. The difference between an LSD and an open diff as far as traction goes is like night and day, kinda depends on what you want to do with it. I would say not very progressive, as soon as the power is in it acts like a locker and creates understeer.

pete wood - July 13th, 2004 at 09:25 PM

does this Bruce guy make them or has he got a whole lot from out of old trannies?

pete wood - July 14th, 2004 at 08:57 AM

hey Jak,

you mentioned having a few vws with lsd's. What brand are the lsd's you have and what are you using them for? I am interested in finding one for a 002 1800 bus box.

BTW ya hotmail address is not working.

AdrianH - July 15th, 2004 at 04:53 AM

Bruce rebuilds them - just email the guy, he can give you the details. He goes down to mexico every year and buys as many as he can fit in his bug, drags them back and rebuilds them, you can buy them with cryoed discs for another 40 bucks or so ---- Im not his agent, and I make no money from his sales -- I found him good to deal with.

Other than that you could spend 2500 on a quaiffe - your money, your choice.

I have 2 vw race cars, both use ZF.

Jeff Unwin did have a bus ZF 4 sale a few years back, don't know if he sold it. It was very expensive.

pete wood - July 15th, 2004 at 11:25 AM

I'd like a locker that's easy to get parts for. I was thinking of converting a jap import style one. They are more common and easy to get parts for.

Thanx for the tips guys.
