Cam, do you know anything about the Merc in that clip?

the engine sounds completely mental.

555bug - September 24th, 2004 at 07:24 PM

sorry to answer for you Cam but there was a Mercedies released that was powered by a cosworth engine. The name escapes me but they were extensivly raced in Europe in there own class. They were a 2L+ 4 that made like 200hp or so with loads of revs....thats my bet from the sound.

I haven't seen the video yet but is it a C-111 Merc with a rotary engine from 1969/1970?

Cam - September 24th, 2004 at 07:49 PM

Nope, but I have an opriginal magazine article and road test about the rotar powered Merc supercar, looked pretty interesting.

To my knowledge it's a DTM car, from the old DTM rules. Back when the cars weren't very limited, aside from engine capacity. The now front engine 4.0lt V8, RWD rules were brought about due to budgets being manic and a diminishing fanbase. The up side is: there are now a STACK of ye-old DTM cars available to hillclimbers, sportsedan racers, etc...

oops, my bad. Thought it was the '95-96 era one. But 555BUG is right, it's the earlier 4 cyl model like similar to this one: http://www.mb190.de/motorsport/dtm/dtm.htm  hrrm, 373 BHP in 980KG must be fun ;)
The sound is pretty awesome, straight cut everything, crazy RPM, induction and exhaust help that alot I'd imagine
