Khanacross- Parklands, Gold Coast- With Pics
BiX - September 29th, 2004 at 09:26 AM

Just a up coming event, 3 VW's from the VWDCQ have entered in the khanacross at the parklands on sunday. The event is a side show for the Street fest and vette fest as part of the indy festival which are also being held at the parklands this weekend. Come along and have a look, or if your interested in racing come along and have a chat to one of the entrants about getting invovled.

Cheers

The red beast in action- it threw a big end bearing and got put on the trailer :o

The outright win went to the turbo land cruiser (yes the 4wd!!!) which puts out way to much power. Last time i saw it, it was going aorund the mt cotton hill climb track aslmost as fast as a wrx!!!

and brutal going sideways

Buggyboy - October 3rd, 2004 at 07:29 PM

I popped along for a quick look, man was that cruiser quick- no shame getting beaten by that one. Saw the last run of the dubs- looked like great fun.

pete wood - October 5th, 2004 at 06:06 PM

BiX - October 5th, 2004 at 08:32 PM

ahh the good old beetle. gee they go well!!
hey Bix, how do you perform on race days?
do u win many?

BiX - October 5th, 2004 at 10:19 PM

I have been getting the car set up and normally compete every 2nd weekend or so in something. At present we are getting the car and my self ready for a an assult on the autocross series and the new khanacross series that will be starting next year. Iam normally towards the pointy end, and normally in the top 5 road cars. haven't won an event yet, have come close a few times (had a 15 sec lead at a khanacross and they put me out after the water truck and I spun twice :( on the last run of the day!!!!) but i have only be getting serious over the last year. Got to really work on consistancy as its my biggest downfall. but when your racing against fully prepped rally escorts etc, getting into the top 4 in class is pretty good for a street car. and within the club we have 3 of us who compete, graeme is really good at the motokhana's, iam more of a khanacross/autocross person, and John (johnyb from here) loves his long course racing. but john is being a great help and spending alot of time getting me up to speed both the car and practice. (if you read this, big cheers to johnyb :beer) John has been out of it for a while and once beck in the grove will be hard to beat. (he drives the red class 4 baja)

the most expensive donuts in history:cussing

BiX - October 6th, 2004 at 05:01 PM

vwrallycar we normally have 2 of us there and make sure are seperated by a few other cars so we can take pics while racing. What do you normaly race in? I should be up at rocky (well yeppoon) for new years this year, have to catch up and trade stories.

Pete, the results are at home waiting for me, so I will look up exactly how fast is was going. but with 4wd and the weight to aid in traction it makes and awesomne weapon if it has enough power (which this one has plenty of!!!!)

MikeM - October 6th, 2004 at 05:46 PM

How do I get involved in this? I'd love to give it a crack. I have a Manx buggy and a second manx that is currently getting an EJ22 Transplant that would be great fun at events like this.

Best bet would join the VWDCQ, as they are the only vw club at present that are cams affliliated in QLD (iam pretty sure), then come along and have a go, or spectate so you know whats going on. If you contact John (sporting captain of VWDCQ) or myself (VP VWDCQ) 0428 743 590 we can get you going on what you need or come along to the next club meeting on the 25th of this month at he german club. The next event is at willobank on the 14th of november. you will need to go racing

- membership of a cams affiliated club (VWDCQ or one of the major clubs HSCCQ, IWMAQ, MGCCQ, BSCC)
-Get a 2S lisence, just fill in the form and send in the cheque (about $80/yr last time i checked)
-A roadworthy or safe car.
-road legal street tyres, not 4wd, rally or hand cut tires
-helmet
-fire extingisher

thats about it.

your an ex/current rover arn't you? going to QARM?

hey Bix i compete in motorkhana, khanacross at the moment due to cost of licence. i have competed in rally sprints and hillclimbs, which i hope to get back into soon.
