Wakefield Park Supersprint - Sunday
fullnoise - July 21st, 2005 at 08:59 AM

It hasn't been a particularly good year for supersprints.

We always seem to miss the first round of the Porsche Club of NSW supersprint at Wakefield. It's a pity because the lap times would be better in the warmer months.

I missed Oran Park because I sent my entry too late and a small thing: having to run the engine in!

Finally I'll get to drive the car this weekend but I'll be on my Pat Malone.

So far this year Jak is the only one to post a time. How lame is that?

Anyway I'm hoping for 1:15s at Wakefield. Wish me luck, or perhaps, good track temperature.

You should do a couple of hillclimbs. At least you will have a few beetles (and vw drivers) to keep you company. There has been a few beetles doing various rounds of the nsw series this year. Have fun in goulburnnn[ Edited on 21/7/2005 by bat69 ]

I saw you race at wakefield park earlier this year. A also met somebody who knows you today. A kid called Sam who is working as a camera assistant says he knows a guy called "bat" who races volkswagens.

Anyway Wakefield Park was good except for a brake pedal that needed to be pumped up before braking and a driving back to Sydney with a partially blocked idle jet (that I couldn't get to thanks to the new manifolds).

Two castor shims and drop spindles are a great combination for front end grip. I had minimal understeer which became aggressive turn-in when the tyres warmed up. The hard biting front end was putting me sideways coming onto the front straight which was quite fun.

I was still half a second off my best time but I have to get used to the car. I improved by 2 tenths on each run to end up with a best of 1;16.50.

It was bloody good fun. The day ended with a guy in an XR6 Turbo saying "I don't know what you've done to that thing but I couldn't catch you".

Well done CT, all the long hours in the garage have paid off, your car is a credit to u, proving that just cause u race it, doesn't mean it has to have different coloured panels to do the job.
Most people with a car like yours would have it in mothballs.
& Remember, you're the only 'Gunna' that followed through.
