Thats a sweet beetle , What motor are you running.

Marc

vwrallycar - September 14th, 2005 at 12:10 PM

yeah this is the beetle with a 1.8 GTI engine, that i bought off FROG, goes very well for a stock engine.
this is only local club racing but we race against quite a variety of cars. finished 6th outright from a field of 19, was doing better but suffered from some driver error. the car/engine combination is very good ( i find ), just need more of a budget and i think i could do a lot better. But the main thing is i have fun with what i do and what i have

frog - September 14th, 2005 at 08:17 PM

I think what you have done is amazing.
Can you show us an engine bay pic ?.

Craig Paton - September 17th, 2005 at 06:15 PM

Excellent!! Do you notice the extra weight of the golf engine compared to air-cooled T1 ??

vwrallycar - September 17th, 2005 at 07:17 PM

yeah it did lower the rear a little, but i raised the rear and put in type 3 torsion bars.
from all the info i could find i think from memory the golf engine was about 20lbs heavier than the type 1 setup

frog - September 17th, 2005 at 09:36 PM

Snug allright.....What in the world do other non Veedub people say and think when you pull this bug out for a race?

vwrallycar - September 18th, 2005 at 01:07 PM

well i have a bit of a chuckle because not many people think a beetle can do so well, then afterwards there are some shocked people.just need more money now for some more development

mattie182 - September 26th, 2005 at 08:55 AM

I have been for a race in this car and it is pretty quick (would be better with subaru).:P

1st race I had in the car, it tied first with the QLD clubman series No. 2.

Andrew constantly races against people with lots more money and time to work on their cars, and still is always 'up there' in his times

I have also heard every excuse, as to why they got beaten by a VW beetle!!!!!

vwrallycar - September 26th, 2005 at 07:45 PM

plough - October 12th, 2005 at 09:05 PM

I thinh the "PLUG" was for letting him use your Vento as a Wedding Car!!!!! All Debts paid.

Cam - October 12th, 2005 at 10:29 PM

Thats great! Can't believe what a good fit the golf motor.
Do you notice much understeer at all when powering out of corners?

vwrallycar - October 13th, 2005 at 04:02 PM
