Geez, he's BLoody Keen!!!!

GregWard - October 1st, 2005 at 08:24 PM

Yeah, drove the beetle 1960kms to get here, coming 2nd in class so far.

Tomorrow is 4 x race runs, only one counted today, and I had it far too sideways to be a really good time today.

Out with the files while the car is jacked up at the rear and running in gear, some "buffing" is required... Lol!

Spoke to Greg Yesterday. The event went well for him. Greg managed to score 3rd but he can fill everyone in about the event when he gets back.

He sent me some photos he took along the way to S.A.

Heres the first one. Leaving his garage in Sydney

Craig Paton - October 4th, 2005 at 07:22 PM

So how did you go?

GregWard - October 5th, 2005 at 08:56 PM

Hi Craig,
Yeah ended up 3rd by 2 tenths of a second, could've won it with more runs, they dudded us a bit with them. Also a serious lack of traction (probably due to me driving there on the tyres I was racing with)
8000 rev burnouts and that or more around the track were appreciated by all spectators, must have had more than 50 people talking to me over the weekend.
Just stopped in Wagga tonight, will see mum and dad on the way home tomorrow.

There were a lot of photographers and people with video cameras, so I hope to get some of that.

Greg

GregWard - October 5th, 2005 at 09:47 PM

No excuse good buddy,:P

I wanted to do it that way, I had a great time, wanted to show you can drive a race engine, n beetle, a lot of kms and race and drive home.

Did teach me a win is worth that little extra effort, but no-one could make it to take the tyres!!

It'll be 4000kms and 3 days racing when I come home tomorrow night.
Not too bad I reckon...

Greg

Craig Paton - October 5th, 2005 at 09:57 PM

A hell of an effort Greg! Congrats :thumb

Does the 3rd place cement the title for you?

GregWard - October 5th, 2005 at 10:04 PM

No mate,
es
Oz Champs are to themselves, but it'll be on for young n old at KE park newcastle for the last race for the NSW champs.

I'm tempted to go for the SA champs in a weeks time, but I'll be in Thailand for work!!

I've come 3rd in the QLD champs earlier in the year, dont have time to go to Vic.
But I've travelled 3 states in the last week, with my Beetle, I'm almost done for the year now ($$$) but I might make a sneak appearance at a supersprint to cap it off :thumb

One thing that's not mentioned here is Greg's style of driving. If I drove like that I would not only bring a trailer I'd bring the jaws of life.

Greg's sideways style, rev the tits off it, flat change like you stole it style of driving is really exciting to watch. The spectators and competitors who've seen Greg drive usually are gob-smacked when they find out he drove it there.

Motorsport is for those from the lucky sperm club. It's bloody expensive at all levels. I think it's tops just to drive your car in the gate, slap a number on it and race it. Most of the time competitors have a no-expense spared race car, trailer, tow vehicle and support crew with team shirts.

I'm not saying that Greg's car is cheap; it's a clever combination and Greg is brave to do what he does.

P.S JVL please don't quote me on any of that.

Great effort in a car you drove there and back.
What class do you run in?
