khanacross - February 16th, 2006 at 09:42 PM

hi guys , just had our first round of the newcastle area motorsport khanacross series ,with a big field of 66 vehicles, i finished 4th outright ...the engine is going much better know with the engle 110 it revs harder and still got plenty of torque,,,regards ken

bajachris88 - February 16th, 2006 at 11:14 PM

4th outta 66? Mate. good stuff. U got any piccies of ur ride?

what kinda competition were u up against?

khanacross - February 17th, 2006 at 11:07 AM

thanks mate, the buggy i drive is a single seat space frame chassis, a little bigger then a formula vee weighs about 500kgs runs a 1776 , i race for outright position so the compitition is big from sr20 buggys ,4agze supercharged to wrx'sto old dattos and toyotas and v8's the good thing about my car is wieght and torque most twin cam and turbo buggy's dont really get going untill there doing 4000 revs by then i'm gone and the tracks are normally pretty tight which helps me a bit but if there is any straights they will catch me,,,, regards ken ps i'll try and get pic's

Hey Ken saw some of your times from the W/E and you set some good times. I was looking at some of the the people and cars who did it. It was more like a state round...I might see you at a round later this year, just to see if I can still drive on dirt as I havent done a event on dirt for over 2 years.
Good result. Nathan

i think you'll give me a run for my money, yes it was a competitive day ,i'm going hard to defend my titles from last year ,newcastle area motorsport and local car club outright khanacross and dirtspeed champion,,, all with 48hp at the wheels vw power,,,,regards ken

khanacross - February 20th, 2006 at 08:21 PM

hi guys, i'm heading down to ansell park richmond (its near richmond air base) to do a khanacross for neopeon valley car club if anyone wants to have a look should be a couple of vw powered cars there,,, on sunday26th ,,,ken

Craig Torrens - February 20th, 2006 at 09:23 PM

low HP = less wheel spin.........which = good times on dirt.

I hope they get some rain before sunday, the last time I ran in a motorkhana there it was so dusty I had to slow down on the last run so I could see where I was going.

BTW, love to see some pics of ya car. I was thinking of building something similar myself. What are the specs of the suspension?

khanacross - February 22nd, 2006 at 08:59 PM

hi pete, come and have a look if you get time ,my buggy is type 3 front end modified for camber, caster, ride height, with steering box in middle, space frame chassis to type 3 rear end , motor and box is mounted the normal way to give traction over wheels, i'll try and get some pics and post them,,,,,regards ken

pete wood - February 22nd, 2006 at 10:33 PM

Ta, I was thinking of going midmount with a swingaxle box and turbo 1640 Type 3 motor with EFI and water to air intercooler. Not sure now. I already own the buggy in my avatar, and it has a Subie 2.5L so seems like more sense to get that working better, but who knows I might get sidetracked again.

khanacross - February 23rd, 2006 at 10:41 AM

pete ,i would like to look at your buggy ,a freindwho is racing with me on sunday wants to put a subi in his buggy so would be interesting to look at yours,, turbo 1640 is a good idea should fly but mid mount traction would be a issue but fun, ken

pete wood - February 24th, 2006 at 11:08 AM

It's not exactly hard to Subie a buggy, just a bit fiddly. send me an email and maybe we can hook up some time and have a talk about it. Also, if you look at my website (click on the website button under my post) there's fairly good write up of what I went through and an info page on Subying your dub as well.

BTW, the reason I was thinking midmount was to make it all about car control. I won't have turning brakes, just a handbrake for both rear wheels and a welded diff. That way it's all about driving the car by setting it up for corners and then steering with the throttle. :thumb:P

pete wood - February 25th, 2006 at 05:44 PM

Cyril's car is quite something. I saw it a few years back now. I'm surprised to hear you are that competitive with him. His car is very serious, especially with the SR20 in it. Keep up the good work. Maybe I'll get up there again some time this year. I have a mate races a datto 1600 PRC car.

khanacross - February 27th, 2006 at 11:03 AM

hi pete, if you want to see any results you can go http://www.wac.org.au  that is the westlakes automobile club has results from from lots of events ,, yes cyril is fast and hard to beat ,we see buggys with all sorts of engines from sr20, 4agze,camira,z18turbo ,suzuki gti , dattos and ofcourse vw , but i usually finish top 5, i went to ansell park yesterday i think i will be getting dust out of my eyes for a week, there was a good field about 50 i think should get results emailed to me wednesday there was 9 buggy's there, let you know how i went,,,,,regards ken
