Hi

That looks like a superbug, good use for the LH Torana tailights.

Steve

Menangler - February 24th, 2006 at 10:16 AM

Yep it's a '71 SuperBug,
was stored at my place, used to belong to Buzzbug, he sold it for a case of beer, took them a couple of months to build and it was done. was much better to see the car used for speedway then end up at the tip, (where it was going), the photos on the trailer are at my place, they dropped in to show us how it looked finished

Awesome!!! BTW, I'm sure the Torana tailights make it go even faster!!:P

Just out of interest, what carbie setup is it using, single carb or dual weber/dells/kadrons? Must be a really cranky engine. :punk:

Menangler - February 24th, 2006 at 07:45 PM

Carbs are dual IDF Webers, runs very smooth.

vw54 - February 24th, 2006 at 07:50 PM

looks good Beck maybe a dual purpose car ???? Drags ???

fortunately I took pics of the entire build up of HORACE over the past 3 months . I will get all pics in order and list them on my website soon at http://www.wpvw.com.au  the pics even show the engine internals and the build of the engine .

Horace had a few teething problems on his first outing at Nowra speedway . In the first race driver Dave almost put Horace onto his roof when a right rear tyre that was too low in pressure decided to roll under the rim halfway through a sideways corner . The rim dug into the track and sent Horace into a 180 degree piraette on just one wheel , with the front quite high in the air .

Some one got a great pic of this happening and soon as I get a copy I will post it .

Second race was a lot better with higher tyre pressures and Horace came 5th out of 6 cars .( Horace must start from rear of feild for the first 2 race meetings , as per the club rules for new drivers ) . Engine was running fine and was hitting the 7300rpm rev limiter about a second before entering turn 3 .

Third race just didn't happen . Dave strapped himself in , started the engine , warmed it up , drove up to the dummy grid where the cars line up before going out onto the track , had the engine running another 3-4 minutes and when the cars went to move out onto the track Horaces' engine just stopped . The electronic ignition conversion had just failed and we had no spark . Horace was back in the trailer .

All faults have now been rectified , swaybars removed , rear suspension lowered 75mm with 40mm stagger to the left and back to NOWRA SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY NIGHT !!

You guys are out of control now, whish I still lived there. Hopefully I'll be back in a thew years.

Good to see guys.

hypo-vw - March 23rd, 2006 at 12:02 AM

Horace is looking a bit crashed and bashed after Dave took him to Nowra speedway last saturday night . He started out of 7th position in the first race , moved forward up to 5th position and on the last turn before the finish line found himself sliding sideways through the corner and into a parked datsun which had just seized an engine . Damage to right side of body , both right mudguards and marks on our new wheels .

hypo-vw - March 23rd, 2006 at 12:16 AM

After a few patch-ups , and a great deal of help from Paul Wright of the Shoalhaven VW club , horace was back on the track for the second heat . He started from position 6 and finished in 4th , with no incidents to report !!

In the third heat Dave started from position 3 , with Herbie in position 1 and a nissan pulsar in position 2 . From the start Dave quickly took 2nd and chased Herbie for 2 laps . Dave then ran a little wide in turn 2 and the pulsar snuck down the inside . Horace and the pulsar went down the back straight side-by-side and through turns 3 + 4 horace got higher and higher on the track until he slammed into the concrete wall exiting turn 4 . More damage to the mudguards and a lot more marks on the wheels but the thing that stopped him was a smashed right outer CV joint .( in the first pic you can see the CV boot twisted ) Goodnight Horace !!

More updates after next race meeting . April 1 , 6pm.

these couple of pics were taken by the track photographer . Both pics were taken at Horaces' first race meeting . the first pic was taken just at the start of Horaces' big spin and shows the bug up on 2 wheels . These pics and many others are available for sale at Nowra Speedway Photo stand on any race night .
