Diter did a 1:10.7
I didnt enter due to social commitments
and a lack of rear sticky tyres.

Alex Holzl - April 12th, 2006 at 08:34 PM

The beetle was only beaten by pure Porsches

Alex Holzl - April 12th, 2006 at 08:50 PM

By the end of the day dieter was put in the second fastest group and none in thoughs groups managed to pass him, and managed to pull 7 seconds between the other dubs. Dieter also was the fastest out of the associate class (non porsches, like WRX's, GTR skylines, RX7 twinturbo!, falcons and commos)

The Porsche Club have a power to weight factor which we will use to compare if the beetle is truly competitive. Alot of the other cars had a good power to weight ratio, although they are heavy but they also have massive power and wider tyres.

I was told CT's car was running well and sounded hot on the track and jako was pullin alot more speed now and giving the brakes a real working!

Check the times out and hassel ya mates with porsches about vw's being faster hehehe!!

Holy Shit!

This is NOT ment as a shot at anyone but Dieter, those times are FANTASTIC!!!

fullnoise - April 13th, 2006 at 09:16 AM

It was such an eventful weekend I was just glad to finishi it one piece. I won't steel Jak's thunder as he's currently writing a story on the weekend for the VW mag.

However the weekend had:
A close call with a giant Kangaroo on the Hume Hwy,
3 Roadside Brakedowns,
I got a slap on the wrist from the clerk of the course for paying attention to the rear of a Porsche 928 S4 rather than seeing the red flag
I also beached the car in the gravel trap at the end of the straight and had to get towed out

The car was fantastic but but the driver is a little rusty.

I was a second and a half off my best because I was driving like a girl.:sandrine

Fortunately the new oil cooler brackets I made the day before prevented the oil cooler from being ripped off the front beam when I went into the gravel.

I fitted an oil cooler on the previous Wednesday but it was leaking by Friday unfortunately.

The cost of the new oil cooler, compared to the swap-meet price of the old one, prompted me put more time and thought in to the brackets.

I can report that the cooler dropped the highway oil temps down from 115 C to 85C. Definitely worth the effor and expense.

The only damage to the car from the gravel trap is a missing wheel weight and lots of stones and dust to clean up. Mind you I could hear the stones coming out of the car for about a lap and a half on my next and final run.

fullnoise - April 13th, 2006 at 02:03 PM

I'm really happy with the engine. I'm playing with the jetting and the timing to find the sweet spot. It's got lots of potential. It's sounds great.

Mitch - this is the Type 4.

It will be at the Nats.
78 x 103 IDA fed.

Amazing. There is more to come out of this.
Only got to 65 oil temp. Needs to be pushed harder - both the car and Dieter

1303 - April 15th, 2006 at 07:22 PM

Hats of to Dieter.....150hp + well balanced car + Dieter = great time.

Goes to show that a better handling car with a good driver will always lay down a better time than cars with more power and average drivers.

Cheers Paul

waltermitty - April 15th, 2006 at 09:26 PM

I think thats right Paul , if the balance of the car is there and the driver is up to it then the horsepower is not as much a defining requirement. Mitchell

Bloody awesome guys!amazing result for first drive! I bet there were some very pissed off Porch drivers not to mention the rexies excetra its good to see! Its gonna be BlitzKrieg! when D gets that beast to the creek and Oran Park! Its also good to see you young guns sticking it to the old boys and prooving again that if you are fast you are fast no excuses and in the end results speak for themselves.A greate result for Dieter this will give the critics plenty 2 talk about. Go hard or go home and go slow on the H2O!
