FORMULA VEE THREAD.... Changed from question just because I can.
Volkswagenboy - June 18th, 2006 at 04:20 PM

This is to you Formula Vee drivers out there,
I have been looking at a FV body and chassis
(Seems to be new) for sale recently so my question is
How much should I expect to pay?
Note this is only for the body, chassis, base plate and seat... No running gear or anything else.
Thanks, Any help is appreciated.

Um itd help if you knew what make the chassis is.
If its a type of chassis that cannot readily be modified to accept a 1600 then its not worth a shitload.
I think a late model Alder bodykit is worth around 1400 bucks or so.

As far as the chassis is concerned, it does depend on what bits it has with it such as steering wheels and shafts, seat, dashboard, gearshift linkages, fuel tank and the like.
What about rear suspension arms?
It goes without sayiing, the more bits you get, the dearer it becomes!!!!!

If its a basic bare chassis with a floor pan with a body kit then its going to be pretty cheap.
Again, difficult to say without knowing what it is and how old it is.

Ok, I'll find out what it is. Doesn't seem too old at all (Pretty much new).

If you havent had one before then building one from scratch will turn out to be pretty expensive. Considering there are heaps of them about for $5000 for an entry level up to $30,000 for a front runner I would get hold of a cheapy, I bought a great vee for $3000 not so long ago- is a few years old but just as much fun as a $30,000 oh and I also sold a vee chassis and body for $50 not so long ago, so there are bargains out there.

There is a sabre chassis on the f/vee website for $1500 by the time you add motor/gearbox/steering/guages/harness is soon exceeds a fully sorted car..

Yer I gott agree with pete on this one.

A mate of mine recently sold a complete turnkey car on a registered trailer for $2600!

Just get in and drive!

if you can get the chassis kit for bugger all then its prolly worth doing.

Okay, I've made the decision that it's not worth the money.
I might wait a while and buy a complete vehicle to rebuild.
Thanks guys.

Yeah mate, i'm finally getting some results! Most importantly I'm finishing races without something going wrong! I'm getting into top 10 now! Was up to fourth apparently at one stage at the Creek but the oil pressure disappeared so I decided to pull off the track to not lunch the engine. But at Oran, no engine worries at all! Lovin it!

76bug - June 21st, 2006 at 09:16 AM

Volkswagenboy - June 21st, 2006 at 09:25 AM

71superbug - June 26th, 2006 at 11:29 AM

how about those superkarts hey?

they reckon about 20 grand will get you a very competitive one landed in aus

with a 6 speed sequential box .etc. complete.

and those little karts hit 230kph..

INSANITY WHEN YOU ARE ONLY 20MM OFF THE GROUND
