What's better?
I know what I like. I get more track time at one supersprint than a Hillclimber gets all year.
However in hillclimbs you do get a couple of things you don't get in a supersprint. If you enter the State series, as opposed to just the individual
events, you do get a patch for your racing suit and a sticker for your car.
Hillclimbs also provide variety. You get to race on a go-kart track, a look-out road, a race track, a small round-a-bout (Ringwood) and best of all a
black spot on a national highway.

You might get more drive time at a sprint but I find the challenge of a hill climb the attraction. You have to be on the ball right from the start and you know you have to get it right.
Hillclimbs.
Hard to define why, but decided long ago after running many multi-starts & supersprints that they were my favorite. I didn't like being on the track
with much fatser cars & always having to get out of their way eg. at Philip Is or Calder. Preferrred Winton too - narrower & more corners.
Although it's a long time since I did either, I've been a fan of hillclimbs for a long time. It's great motorsport because it costs less in fuel,
rubber and brakes than round-roundies, and you need to have well-sorted engine with grunt everywhere. Similarly, suspension - hillclimbs requires a
wider scope of development for a wider variety of conditions than on tracks, everything from ultra-slow to flat-out fast corners, with all sorts of
bitumen on 'real' roads
Plus, there's usually a more casual friendly and co-operative atmosphere at the events because you usually don't have to put up with wankers in HSVs
and Porsches. Etc.

After nearly 40 years of following hillclimbs it is only in the past 18 months that I have actually been competing. The attraction is the challenge of
many curcuits, especially the Bathurst Esses, and the approachability of the other competitors. As far as value for money and time in the car, some
events offer a half to full days practice beforehand for little or no extra money. I have entered and competed in 18 events in the last 18 months (15
State rounds and 3 local club rounds) with the option to have done more, both locally and elsewhere in the state. So, there definitely is the
opportunity to use the car. I don't know how that compares with the number of supersprint events but perhaps next year we will find out.
As for the car, it still runs sweetly having actually done more than twice the events mentioned in the period of time as it is always double entered.
Thanks go to Stan for a strong engine.

Each to there own! Supersprints deffently...better value for time on track:thumb...Just more costly to run.Bathurst is still on my agenda for a Hillclimb.:P
I like them both, but as others have said the hillclimb crowd are a friendly buch (apart from that bloke King Torrens) that enjoy a beer after the days racing...............Oh I understsnd now, it must be just the beer :beer
Hillclimbs are fun but I find a get a taste of the action and there's just not enough track time to satisfy my thirst (How poetic). They are
certainly more fun to watch. The VW drivers, especially Greg, are the most exciting to watch. It's also funny to watch some of the spectators faces
when they hear the VWs doing their burnouts. The noise they make certaily defies what the spectacle.
On the other foot supersprints are excellent because you spend so much time in the car you get to enjoy exploring the limits. You get to feel the car
up on it's tippy-toes. I like being able to pick racing lines so the wheels just kiss each ripple strip on the apex and the exit.
It's also fun chasing other cars especially if they have strengths in different parts of the track. Some of the Porsches are a classic. They blast
away down the straight then are quite surprised when you're back on their bumpers through the tight bits.
When you're not driving supersprints are a bit boring to watch. It's kind of like watching a formula vee at a hillclimb (Sorry formula vee guys).

Neither, they are both boring.Although at least with a supersprint you have time to read a good book or the paper while going around the track.
supersprint or hillclimb
If you are looking value for money, pure excitment and scare $hit out of your self factor, then nothing beats rallying. Some rallies you pay a couple
hundred bucks entry fee to do over 100 competative kls. Ive craked some big speeds (183klms Buladelah, 190klms Clybucca) in some events on roads a
little wider then Greg Wards nuts put together. The down factor is the cost on the car and maintance after the event. I lov competing on the dirt.
To he honest. I really dont care what type of event Im completing in. As long as I get to drive flat out on the track (or at least faster then the tow
car getting to the event) then I'm happy.

Hill climbs. But youve gotta have twin carbies to make a difference in speed.

Value for money
At the lastest state hillclimb I just did at Tamworth, two days of motorsport were offered for the entry fee of $100. For that my beetle did 19 laps
of the 1klm circuit on practice day (I could have done heaps more but I had to stop to eat lunch and take a pi$$ - dame I hate drinking coke) and 6
competitive laps on race day. Thats $4.00 a klm which I think is not bad value for money.
Yup, Saturday ptactice was never ending!
How about Eastern Creek Private Practice.
3.93 kilometers.
2 minutes per lap.
Half an hour sessions.
3 sessions = 176 kilometers
$125
$0.71 per kilometer.
Yawn. I'll never get the time I spent typing this post back. I think I'll go and clip my toenails.
CYA CT
how about driving around in Sydney traffic?.................$0.00 per Km and far more exciting than any track..............I think I'll go back to
waxing my bum crack.

How did you go in Tamworth?
Have you ever tried 30psi in the tyres?
Next year we should have a supersprint vs hillclimb competition where we all do 2 supersprints and 2 hillclimbs and see who has the lowest overall
time. Or something like that.
I'm sure I'd lose, unless there was a show & shine component, but it would be fun anyway.
CYA CT
That's not a bad idea CT, how about a motorsport series for AVD members. 1 supersprint and 1 hillclimb and 1 motokana. Nominate each meeting that we must attend and points score each of them.

Oh yeah forgot the drags thanks.
We could run a tri-series.
Some guidlines...........!????
1: VW based
2: Any engine/gearbox combo
3: Rego and unregoed
4: Is one meeting of each disipline enough?
5: Each state?
6: Each disipline will pick their venue and dates?
let's hear it.
Start a separate post.
List the competitors.
1. Craig Torrens
2. Peter Mcleod
3. CT Hansen
4. Jak Rizzo
5. Paul Locciano
6. Deiter Holzl
7. Nathan Abbott
8. Alex Holzl
9.

6. Oran Park (Before it disappears) GP Supersprint 07
7. Eastern Creek Motorkana
8. Calder Park for a potential Car Show segment
What are the handicap rules for capacity, turbos etc used in hillclimbs?
Should we add a dyno shootout and make power to weight ratio a factor? We don't want to over regulate because everyone take such a different approach
to what they build and what they use their cars for.
