speedster356 - September 9th, 2006 at 05:43 PM

I'm not running as I don't have a logbook and it's required for state and above meetings, so it's crewing for Loud Jon in his open wheeler and some spectating.:o

speedster356 - September 10th, 2006 at 11:52 AM

Just had an other email and I'm back in.....:thumb

bat69 - September 10th, 2006 at 12:56 PM

Pete, I always thought your car had a log book. Thats good you are able to run. I loved watching you car smoke the tyres all the way up the hill last year... do want to swap cars???

Flange. .. What car / engine combo do you have? I havent seen any new vw race cars on the track l8tly.

It should be a good event with about 60 cars entered. Theres 6 VW beetles, a few FVee's, VW open wheelers and Pistol Petes rocket ship doing the event.

Ill see you all there. Any else thinking of coming up for a look.

_dmb_ - September 10th, 2006 at 01:35 PM

i'll be there, working (hopefully not actually doing anything though).
hopefully a bit of spectating too

VWCOOL - September 10th, 2006 at 02:18 PM

Yeah I'll try - I have a Torana show to look at in Newie, too

6 Beetles ?
Please list them , I didnt think 6 race beetles existed in NSW .!

bat69 - September 10th, 2006 at 10:23 PM

John & Nathan Abbott
Heath & Christine Campbell
Marty Fleck
Craig Torrens

Thats actually 4 cars as me & John as well as Heath & Cristine are doubled entered. I can also think of a few more off the top of my head like Ward & Durie, who are unfortunately not running in this event. That makes 6.

And that does not include the ones sitting at home in the garage that have not been unveiled yet.

amazeer - September 11th, 2006 at 08:05 PM

oh for the good old days when the numbers of VW's were second only to toranas.
unwin and smithy, ruth pobjoy, greg ward, spinks bros, cook + durie. Hmmm that still isnt many. Am I missing a few or was I just more excitable back then. Not sure if Craig was running back then.

amazeer - September 11th, 2006 at 08:07 PM

Pete, tell me the content of your email re log book. Maybe this is why I have been asked the question. Maybe I need to find a stronger response to make it look like I know what I am doing.

Yep, the good old days.. Torries and dakkers everywhere!

The Spinks - and the black car - were father and son. Craig began in 1993 (I think) with an ex-'B to B' bash car with a 1916 in it... ahh, the good old days

Flange - September 14th, 2006 at 12:09 PM

Yeah Bat 69, in response to your last...its nothing special just VW, silver with set of nice wheels.
Not sure how I will run at Bulahdelah, you might still get me on the corners.
Here's a pic:

Craig Torrens - September 21st, 2006 at 09:56 PM

Fun event, with all the Vw's (2) performing well. A new class record was set.

The spinks destroyed the black car down here at Huntley, after that they built a mid mounted jobbie. There was also a blue buggy doing the rounds back then.

Outsude of the championship Becker was a pretty regular runner at Huntley in the '57. Mr Penrose had the suicide rotary bug. Russel Brown used to run a late notch.

VW racecars were everywhere.

VWCOOL - September 21st, 2006 at 11:22 PM

yeah I remember the black car's crash. Not fun...

VWCOOL - September 21st, 2006 at 11:36 PM

Wot's the next event, lads?

bat69 - September 23rd, 2006 at 11:53 PM

Was a great event. Craig set a new track record and got 1st in class. I went faster then llast years time and got 3rd in class. I just got beaten by a turbo datsun on my last run. the old man finished really well with 4th, knocking about 2 seconds off his time from last year. All beetles cracked over 140klm over the finish line, which isnt too bad when you consider its a 40klm sign posted corner.

The next event is te Tooheys 1000 oh hillclimbs. King Edward Park on the Oct long week end. State championship on sun 1 Oct and tri club challenge on the mon 2nd oct.
