i have a few engine combo's that i can put together.
1916 or 2387
i have seen alot of talk about power figures, and i was wondering what kind of power i should expect when it comes to dyno time.
the reason i asked about hp per cube was because a few friends of mine have reached between 1.45 to 2 hp per cube,one is a pushrod engine and one is a
twin cam.
i was wondering if people could share some of there engine combo's and hp figures ,to help me make up my mind on which combo to go with.
i have 48 ida's
94 barrel's
69 & 86 couterwiegted cranks
big foot lifters
cromoly push rods
solid shafts
1.25 1.35 & 1.45 roller rockers
full msd ignition set up
alloy case
cb rods
044 heads 42 inlet 38 ex
10 & 8 mm chromoly head studs
heaps of differnt cams.
everything is brand new still in boxes, ready to go into my slamed 60.
oh.i almost forgot ,i don't care what fuel i have to use as i only drive about 5 k's to work and back every day.
The smaller engine will always make more "HP per Cube" for a given bunch of parts.
But after saying that, the bigger cubes will make more power, more easily accessed.
If it were me I would use the larger crank, unless it is a small main, chevy journal thing.
The small main bearing crank will work, but will have a life span that you may not be happy with.
Either way you will have plenty to skite about :
either a good 1915,
or a 2386.
Use good hi octane race fuel and run at least 10:1, if you can afford the fuel.
PS, what work is done to the heads?
If they have no chamber or port work they will flow less than stock valves.
the heads have been ported ,and they flowed for over 200cfm.
chambers have been tidied up de burd and polished,but they haven't been fly cut as yet because i have not picked my engine size.
the crank has chev journals.
i was planing on running around 12-13 : 1 not realy worried about the cost of fuel.

hmm not really, you just have to find the right dyno. Find out where some of the cars in magazines get theirs done. Pretty sure some of those guys could get near 200hp by simply bolting on a bugspray, 009 and monza exhaust. And in a perfect world it would run to 10,500 rpm for 12 seconds before bits of engine became embedded in the roof of your garage
What pressure drop is the 200 cfm flowed at? 25 or 28?
If they were flowed at 28, 200 cfm will strugle to make 200hp, but it is possible.
I think with everything built right you may achieve your goal with 200cfm@25".
You will need a lot of camshaft.
We have used the FK87 and 89, but for your combo,
I would choose the FK87 with the larger rockers, and , yes, keep that comp up there.
PS Nitride that crank, and re chech your oil clearances, if it has not already been done.
This will improve the life of your crank.

as for the fuel availability not a problem.my shop is in the bankstown area,you can get anithing you want locally,
fully sik fuel for the fully sik WRXs.... I remember reading that a Belmore servo had racing fuel on pump at 130 octane ? about $3.50 per litre though
FK 87 has 276@.050" and is a 320 degree advertised. With about .400 on the lobe.
The FK89 has 282@.050" and 328 degrees advertised, and has about .415 on the lobe.
Both have 108 lobe centres. They like to be installed abot 3 degrees advanced.

one of the cam's i was going to start with is very similar
276@.50" 318 with 401 on the lobe ,it also has 108 lobe centres.
i am goimg to start clearancing the case later this week ,is there any little tricks i need to know.
