Huntley Hillclimb NSWHCC May 27
amazeer - April 9th, 2007 at 09:17 PM

This is a little early but thought I would give plenty of notice. A shameless plug really.

Huntley is 700 odd metres very steep and a few corners thrown in.

2 years ago Greg Ward won hte traditional VW class by just 2/100ths. Craig Torrens got his own back last year with a new record. I'm sure Nathan Abbot will be keen to give it a shake this year with his new hp.

Peter Gumley in a type 4 supercharged open wheeler holds the record at 19.42 seconds. That was way back in 2000. I believe Pete smashed the record at Bathurst (the other steep hill) so all looks good for Huntley. I remember when the record was 22 seconds and nobody thought it could go lower.

It will be well worth the watch. entry is gold coin donation, just a short blast down the F6 for Sydneysiders.

should be some good times posted this year ;)

bat69 - May 10th, 2007 at 06:03 PM

Im going to be here for this one. Cant wait to see what time the new steroids engine can do here. This one should be a good one for the VW's. There are few of us going to enter and there are a few Datsun boys who want to show us vee dubbers how to drive a race car.

Anyone else interested in going to watch or have a drive. Its not far from Sydney and its a good event to spectate at.

Here ya go:
Wollongong Sporting Car Club website here

How do I get to Huntley?

From the north...

Heading south down the freeway take the 2nd Dapto exit (Fowlers Rd exit).
Turn right off the exit ramp.
At the end of Fowlers, turn left onto Princes Highway.
Approx 800m up the hill there is a takeaway shop on the right. Turn right just after it. (Avondale Rd)
Follow Avondale until you get to what appears to be the end of it and turn right again. Follow that to bottom of mountain, and you will see us.

From south...

Take Dapto exit, turn left at the end of offramp.
After you go around a right hand bend turn left into Huntley Rd.
Just follow the road out to the bottom of the mountain (it changes to Avondale Rd along the way).

Put me running after Nathan !

Craig Torrens - May 22nd, 2007 at 10:40 PM

John's the short fat guy that looks like poppa smurf:P

bat69 - May 25th, 2007 at 07:57 PM

Chirs, I dont care which side you put me on. If you put Craig and dad (john) in the same side then I know what time I have to chase...ha ha .

amazeer - May 25th, 2007 at 10:51 PM

nathan, you'll run with first half as will craig. wont run consecutively though because double entered cars run at the end of the field. That gives you the maximum amount of time to let the car cool down, change drivers and numbers, talk tactics... whatever you need to do. Downside is that craig will have time to get out and watch you through the fork, throw rocks, shake his wanger at you... whatever he needs to do.

As an aside, I contacted pretty much every new car dealer in wollongong to ask for merchandise. ford holden, honda, toyota, subaru/volvo, volkswagen/audi. Only Wilson's Holden at Albion Park Rail was good enough to even get back to me. They donated 3 HRT shirts and a beach towel. :tu: To all the others... shame shame shame :td:

speedster356 - May 26th, 2007 at 09:32 AM

Pity the spectators at the fork! Hmmmm, King Torrens standing on the bank at the fork, hands on hips, wang out in the breeze. I think CAMS might have something to say about that:puke
Looks to be shaping up to a perfect day for racing, 23 deg and fineeeeeee.

amazeer - May 26th, 2007 at 05:18 PM

Hmm marked out the pit bays today using the ever accurate method of 5 steps per bay.... not enough room, make it 4 steps... not enough room.... got Curly Cowan to do 3 steps.... and it just fits. Looking down the lane some steps were bigger than others. Ahh well. Apologies in advance. Dont worry pete, your space is a huge one befitting a racing legend.

Craig Torrens - May 27th, 2007 at 07:52 PM

Perfect weather for motor racing......................pity I broke two pushrods on my second run !!!....................maybe I should try and keep gear changes below 8500 rpm with vw pushrods :P

dangerous - May 28th, 2007 at 06:11 AM

Did you have some spares Craig?

Craig Torrens - May 28th, 2007 at 09:53 AM

Unfortunately not, the only other time I broke one was in 1999. Will make up some spares I think !!

amazeer - May 28th, 2007 at 10:32 AM

results are up. http://www.wscc.org.au/2007.XLS

Craig Torrens - May 28th, 2007 at 11:16 AM

Cheers Chris.

Well done for a great event.

speedster356 - May 28th, 2007 at 03:54 PM

Not a bad day, several holdups........couple of bent cars.........still the usual friendly crowd and a good time had by all. I was a 1 sec down on my best time. Was hoping to be in the 25s..bugger. I walked the track for the first time yesterday, bloody steep!!! I think we need a billycart race here at the end of the year Chris?:P now that would see some carnage:P

amazeer - May 28th, 2007 at 04:19 PM

might as well. after the bullshit that went on behind the scenes yesterday its pretty obvious that CAMS dont want anyone to do any motorsport. All they are interested in is selling watertight insurance policies.

Every year there are threats to Huntley not only by CAMS but by developers. CAMS already shut it down for a year with BS safety concerns. Greg Norman is in town at the moment promoting a proposed golf course out there. Some people want to open the mine as a tourist mine. I'm at the stage now where I couldnt care less if they did. Organising motorsport isnt what it used to be. There's too much money fighting against it.

vw54 - May 28th, 2007 at 05:24 PM

Amen

amazeer - May 29th, 2007 at 01:19 PM

I think I must be insane. I'm now toying with the idea of trying to pick up the cancelled Buladelah round. I think we managed to break even on the weekend despite doing almost no preparation for the event (too busy with ASIC stuff) and having $0 dollars in sponsorship, just a few merchandise donations. May is not the best time at Huntley, heading due west into the sun, gets dark at 4:30, morning track temps rather icy. Would you guys come back on September 23rd?

speedster356 - May 29th, 2007 at 02:17 PM

yes:crazy:

vw54 - May 31st, 2007 at 08:37 AM
