Can you really drive?????
fullnoise - April 5th, 2008 at 09:05 AM

I don't really rate myself as a racing driver. I'm far too conservative.

When Jak and I raced at Oran Park GP with the Porsche club we'd usually be in the 4th speed group out of 5. The proper race cars and GT3s would be in group 1.

Check out this car and driver package keeping up with the GT3. Check out how much opposite lock the guy put on coming off the Yokohama bridge. Check out how he looks down the inside of the GT3 coming over the dog-leg and he winds on another dose of opposite lock when he's beside it.

Awesome.

I don't think the links work in the circut racing section. Just paste it in if you have to. It's worth it.

I wish I could drive my car like that!

Warning it's not a vw. It's a brand of rice you guys might hate. But love them.

Last Wednesday I was invited up to Morgan Park for a Formula Vee media drive day.

Vees might look slow in comparison to other open wheel formulas, but once behind the wheel, you can forget about 'slow'. It's a step up from Karting, and the feeling in the seat is F1 style.

I didn't set any track records, but I'm all set to go back for more. Top fun!!

Hi Craig,

There's something about sitting close to the ground with the wind in your face that makes you seem like you're going real fast.

Get a formula vee Craig. Sure you'd have plenty of room for one. You could keep in the tray of either dual cap kombi.

What self respecting VW magazine editor doesn't have one these days!

I bet driving around Morgan Park was fun.

I'm not sure that much opposite lock is the fast way around....

Last time we took the M5s down to Winton, we all got timers. I did a couple of "drift" laps - lots of opposite lock .. to the extent someone else on the track came up later and wanted to know who the "drift king" was. Definitely my slower laps. Took some serious chunks out of the rubber too. Amazing how it always looks so much easier on the video eh?

I've got a couple of go karts here ... damn kids should be out there every weekend. If they get used once a year .....

Hi

That guy would be quicker if he had some decent rubber, very good driving all the same.

Was it a 1600 Vee Craig? I believe they are very fast.

I saw motoring TV show many years ago and I think it was Peter Brook had a whole heap of different class race cars & bikes lined up at Oran Park. They were set off at different intervals so that they would all arrive at the finish line at the same time, it was amazing how far up the list Vees were.

I saw an in car vid of Leanne Ferrier at Oran Park in the mazda. Something must have happened in qualifying or it was a reverse grid. The way she drove and got to the front so easy was incredible. She's successful in heaps of cars but cant get in gig in v8's. And then you have people like fat head Paul Morris who drives like a halfwit, cant overtake anyone without using them as a brake marker and pushing them wide. The guy just cannot drive at all! He must keep the bonnet makers at Holden working 8 days a week. Yet if someone scratches his car he puts his mug on tv and says they should be thrown out!

I hate the guy.. you may have noticed.

paul morris is better known for his management skills than his driving he and his family run a very profitable business, i think he needs the bump and BIFF, more like the old supertourer days with tony longhurst

Nice incar footage

I think the owner of the GT3 was trying to keep the car straight, a little conservative. How much grunt did the GT3 have in a straight line!!!! :spin:

Opposite lock, I think I wind on that much opposite lock myself. What I would like to see is incar of Nathans car, he gets out of the car with arms pumped from winding the wheel around so much.

The GT3 driver is just a pussy. ... If someone will lend me a camera to bolt inside my circuit beetle then I will record it and post it here for everyone to see.
