As you all know Jak & I did the 2007 NSW Round of the Dutton Rally in my Oval. The deal we had was that we'd back up the following year in Jak's
car. The VWRX Superbug.
We've got until November to get the car sorted.
The main mods are upgrading the front brakes and tuning the chassis to the new Yokohama R-spec tyres.
The biggest challenge is me getting used to double the horsepower.
This vid is from the weekend.

always nice! oh! new left hand brake light needed...not working in vid...good luck boys
How MUCH power CT?
Listen to the bell birds in the back ground...freaking out.
hee, fun to watch, were you driving CT?
Looks like you lads need a LSD too ;-)
Should be fun, how does driving this compare to your oval?
mmmm subie power...............fun isn't it....especially when they
belong to someone else
always interesting when they want to power slide like that at sppeds well over 100 clicks
CT if you prepare Jaks car half as good as your own it will be on the money.
Current Preparation includes:
Yokohama ADVAN A032R tyres (The same as my oval)
Nissan GTR 16 inch rims
Nissan GTR 4 spot calipers for the front
330mm vented front rotors
No mucking about!
Twice my Oval!
Man they are some massive brakes. We ran those same front calipers on the front of a perkins V8 commodore rally car and they worked spot on on a 1500kg heap of metal so I could only imagine what they would be like on a car 500 and somthing kg's lighter. Interested to see how those brakes go. What type of rear brakes are you running? BTW 200ph and 200 footpound of torque are some fine figures..
jeez, that's nuts!
But seriously, I think I'd try and stretch the budget to an LSD of some sort. Otherwise the tight stuff is going to consist of a purple beetle
masquerading as a fog machine. Funny for spectators, but very frustrating for the driver.
Jak got his car down into the 1:57s yesterday at Eastern Creek. That's 2 seconds faster thanks to the new Yokohama ADVAN R-spec tyres. That's 3 seconds faster than we went in my Oval which would put us up quite a few positions in the NSW Dutton.
good boys! did you have the bigger brakes on as well?
No. The big front brakes aren't on yet. Still just the rally-car rear bias!
The tyres are getting hot. We saw the rears in the 70 to 80 degree territory which is perfect.
The fronts were 50 degrees plus but should get into the 60s where they need to be with the addition of the GTR brakes.
The tyres are just 205/50R16s so it's not over-tyred.
With my car out of action with another broken front oil cooler it was good to help set up the pressures in the new rubber.

Nice work CT and Jak. A good preparation is vital.
Cheers Col

Tell me it doesn't look quick!

Here's a bit of new footage. It's of Jak driving my car on the skid pan at Eastern Creek. It was the last day so the confidence was up and the
nerves had subsided. I don't drive my car that hard!

have you done any corner weight tests to see if you can move some weight forward to aid tyre temps in the front?
Love the nissan wheels................you and jak will certainly stir the pot in the beast !
Corner weights!
Do you know how long it took me to convince Jak to get a proper 4 wheel alignment?
When Jak starts pushing the limits of these tyres we'll see if the car is tending to oversteer or understeer and then work on improving it with the
current variables;
Ride height at each end,
Rear swaybar choice &
Wheel alignment.
If we need more turn-in some weight might be a good idea.
My car is almost 40/60 which is close to the good porsches apparently. It would be interesting to see what Jak's is since the engine and gearbox has
been moved forward and there is a radiator in the front!
The black wheels certainly give the car a menacing look. I like it too.
CT
yes the black wheels are very nice!!!! We made some cheap scales using quality bathroom scales and a canterlever arm tha had a ratio of i think 3 to 1 cost a couple hundred insted of the coupla thou that scales were at that time
any more updates ?
