As the title says MGCC are running the Mattra Hillclimb at Newcastle's King Edward Park this long weekend.
Sunday 5th Oct
Round 6 NSW Hillclimb Championship
Start 9:30am to 4pm
Monday 6th Oct
Tri Club Challenge
Start 9:30am to 4pm
Sundays action wil be good with a few beetles planining on running including me, the durie beetle and the campbell beetle. There will be some very
quick race cars at this one including some very quick open wheelers and other fast sedans.
Monday is the tri club challenge between MGCC, Kempey Sporting Car Club and Tamwroth Sporting Car Club and if you are into seeing dozens of old grey
haired men driving borning as bat shit MG's up a hill slower then a snail then go and watch sunday.. If you can get past the MG's, the durie and
campbell beetle generally run on the monday too, along with a few other quick machine.
This is a great event to go and watch. You are right on the beach/water and there are a fair few facilites there to cater for every one including
food/drinks tiolet etc. There is also a small car show/display as well orgnaised by MGCC. And if you get bored, walk 100m down the hill to any
selection of a dozen pubs for a beer or a feed.
MGCC usualy charge an entry fee. I think its around $5. Hope to see you there.
so how did it all go ?
Craig I'm sure you already know the results but I'll post them for everyone elses benefit
Ben was fastest 40.5, I was second 40.6, Christine was third 40.9, Cooky forth somewhere aroud 41.1 and Nathan about 41.5. Unfortunately the Abbot
mobile had another trip up the gutter cutting nathans day short........to date Nathan hasn't had any luck at King Edward Park. I had a good run in
the top ten shootout 40.3......nice to have beetles in the top ten shootout but a little hard to compete with open wheelers and sports sedans
I am very happy to say I won the NSW Hillclimb Championship........a goal I set myself for this year........just got to put the time aside to do all
or most of the events, I missed Canberra and it took me quite a few rounds to claw back the lost points
Congrats on the result heath.
Any pics or specs on the car and engine combination?
Always interested in what stuff you guys run when engine capacity is limited.
Is there a minimum weight for the class you run?
Congrats Heath - good stuff, and it's AWESOME that the beetles are so close to each other !!!
If I didn't know better, I'd almost suspect Dangerous was thinkin about doing some roundy-roundy racing...
Congrats Heath!!
set out to do it and acomplished the goal, well done!
Dangerous..........it be a Ben Durie 1915, haltech, quad throttle bodies, crank angle ignition...........
(some footage from earlier in the year around here somewhere)
Adam Debiasi originally built the car many moons ago
First of all congrats heath on collecting the championship. And yes my luck at king edward park is not good.. This being the 4th year in a row that
the bug has been stacked. What makes it worse is it has been the same corner every year. This year it was me and the other years it was the old man..
It was just a shame that I smacked the gutter after my fist run up the hill, other wise it would have been a great days racing. I only just tapped it
too. Didnt event bend or damage the rim it just managed to bend the arm. I must have just got it at the right spot. Hopefully my baf luck hoodoo for
2008 is now gone......
This years racing has been super close and one of the best years in motor sport racing I have had for a long time..At all events the beetles of heath,
ben and mine were only seperated by a couple of tenths every run. Sometimes there was only hundreths of a second in it which makes it great. I love it
when racing is this close, even when Im loosing.

Here is a link to footage of King Edward Park 2008 it's part 2 of 3.
First you get Cooky, then myself. Watch for a bit longer and you get Nathan including that little touch in the gutter!!!!.....Christine then Ben. The
Dato's in our class are either side of the Beetles
The footage is taken at the hairpin, please note how Christine deals much better with the understeer than myself......after this group of runs I got
under the front to soften the front swaybar only to find the inside edge of the front tyres were bald....and had some similarity to those tyres
falling apart at Bathurst.......fortunately i had a spare couple at the track.......looks like my car prepartation now I'm in Coffs Harbour and the
cars still at Newcastle is done at the track
Top work folks... but there is a little bit of work to do over Christmas
Gr8 little hill climb there at Newcastle. Without a doubt it has the nicest views surrounding the hill climb. Watched quite a few in the 2 years I
lived there.
A whole range of lines being taken through the corner ... some probably not quite intentional. Good to see the beetles having a red hot go. Well done
gents and lady!!
Great Footage,
The Bugs look great
Only just tapped that gutter !
Only just missed the sandbags as well.
