Track tyres that I can use on the road
hewpt - August 19th, 2009 at 07:23 PM

I am a bit new to this but can somebody give me some info on a 15 inch tyre that can do the odd track day and be driven on the road , the road driving wont be that much just the odd trip to the shops and a little running around after kids

Depends on how much you have to spend, rim width, who you want to beat etc. I ran Yokahama C-Drives on my '59 Beetle - 185 F, on 4.5in. rims & 195 R, on 5.5 rims - and found them good value. The grip was good both in the dry and in the wet.

Cheers, Greg

Toyo Proxes R888... can't recommend 'em highly enough for an all round, do almost anything sort of motorsport tyre.

My 16's are a shade over 2 years old and have done about 2000km... still soft and grippy, and I'd say less than 50% worn.

Checkout http://www.toyo.com.au/Proxes%20R888.htm#AVAILABLE SIZES

Will the budget handle Proxes? If so, they would be the go.

I have run the toyo r881 (pre r888) and the r888 and found them great. I think the r881's are getting a little long in the tooth now....

But i used to run 195/55r15 on thr front of my super on 5.5 inch rims. I wouldn't go mcuch wider without going to a 60 profile. Talk to CT, he has played a bit with different rim widths and found that the 6 inch is best width. Mush wider and the tires will not roll at the limit, so therefore the car will jsut let go. I have this problem on mine. The 7 inch wide rear gives more grip, but lets for without warning, compared to a 6 inch rim.

Best thing to do is save your money then buy a spare set of rims.

Then buy some r-spec tyres, ring Garys motorsport in Ingleburn he will help out or CT with the new a050 Advan Yokohama,s.
