As the title says.
After six (6) rounds of racing at places like Fairburn Park (Canberra), Bathurst, Kempsey, Ringwood (Newcastle) and King Edward Park (Newcastle) Greg
Ward has collected the 2009 Improved Production 1601-2000cc Hillclimb Championship. Greg joins the ranks of a hand full of people as a multiple class
winner. All in a car he drives to the track and the supermarket. Congratulations Greg
yeah good work Greg, there is some quite stiff competition out there in the Improved Production under 2-litre class but at the end of the day there is
some good camaraderie in the class and spectators love to see the Beetles running. These cars often doing better times than some high priced
turbocharged AWD 'exotica'.
I have had a hand in keeping Greg's car on the road and track this year with (I provided his brakes and workshop facilities) and look forward to
assisting both Greg and Bat69 with a thorough re-engineering of thier cars for the 2010 season... since helping Greg with ihis car's rebuild and IRS
conversion nearly two decades ago!!
I also have some improvements in mind for my own modest 'wrecker racer' 1968 Beetle that has been featured in VMA and that I have also run in the
NSW Hill Climb series this year. It now has a recently freshened Stan Pobjoy 'street spec' Kadron-carbed 1916cc engine in it. I plan to replace the
'street' beam (it needs to go in my street car!) with another lowered beam more suited to track work, and buy some stickier tyres!
Well done Greg
Congrats to you Greg on a great effort all year.
Look forward to sharing some stories by the camp fire & fun racing next year with you & all the beetle drivers.
Cheers Col
