The 2009 PENRITE AUSTRALIAN HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP will be held at Bryant Park, Haunted Hills over the weekend October 29 to November 1, 2009.
This event is promoted by the Gippsland Car club and is being held at their Bryant Park, Haunted Hills complex at Yallourn.
Unoffical practice starts on Thurs, Offical practice on friday and race day Sat and Sun.
I know Greg Ward and Stan Pobjoy are driving down. They are both entered in Gregs blue Beetle.
I believe Peter Gumley in his VW supercharged open wheeler is also entered. As far as any other VWs go I'm not to sure. There will be a few Fvees no
doubt. That aside there will be some quick cars at this event so it would be worth while going and having a look.
Good luck to everone running
Best of luck to Greg.
Cheers Col

may be your no fear driving style could net some great results with that blind crest and downhill corners etc

Loved the video thanks Pazzan
Looks like a cool circuit! Hill climbs aren't all hill climb these days.
Hope everyone enjoys themselves and drives it hard
Just spoke to the boys. All is going well for Greg and Stan. Greg in practice is sitting 4th fastest 1601-2000cc imp pro and 2.7 seconds off the class record. Stan is running well, a further 2 sec behind Greg. Stan is getting use to Gregs car, having not raced a beetle for about 13 years. Greg was very happy only having 2 practice runs today. Greg thinks there is heaps of improvement to be made considering its was his first run around the track. Had a couple of problems with the tramp bar braking. They are fixing the tramp bar tonight and going for a few hard runs tomorrow. I will keep you updated.
Cheers for the updates, should be a good weekend for VW hopefully! (and stan of course!!)
wow!......awsome track, will put that one down on the must do list!
I spent the afternoon there today (31/10/09) - excellent track and facilities, great views for spectators and a fine new clubhouse/grandstand.
The Ward/Pobjoy blue beetle was great to watch, buckets of power and precise handling. At the very end of the third run today the engine let go in a
big way (or so it appeared from the smoke and oil trail) and the beetle didn't appear for the fourth run.

May be the extra stress from the double entry was too much for it
Just spoke with Greg. Had a mixed bag yeterday. They missed half the morning yesterday chasing parts to fix the tramp problem. Kept snapping the gearbox strap on launch in practice. Its an unsual problem Greg has never had before. They manged to adapt parts to try and fix it. Greg did one run to see how it was and it went well. His next run out he gave it a big launch and it started to tramp again big time and just before the finished the box let go, snapping off the nose cone. Weekend finished. Apart from that the runs they did went well. Greg was 4th in class out of 10 drivers and stan was 7th.
Thats a bummer.
I would have thought he would have had that problem sorted before racing........its all about good car prep
