Operation Supersprint
sander288 - February 9th, 2010 at 08:13 PM

Hey all

After last year on the sidelines I've decided i'm going to try and have a go at the supersprint with what i've got.

Which is a stock 67 1300 Deluxe, link and swinger 165 tyres.

Basically I have nothing to spend on tyres, brakes, and anything that won't make it stock, but I figure it will be kind of like back in the sixties where no mods could be made.

I figure if I strip everything off the car that I can (within reason and regs) I will, like the bumpers the interior and I suppose that will be it, the only additons I had planned were adding 2 sand bags to the front for some better balance...

Don't really plan on being competitive just out to have some fun with the old girl.

Was there any tricks that some of you could give that wouldn't cost alot even better anything?

yeah soak your tyres in sump oil :tu: ;)

The bags of sand would make your Beetle even more dangerous than soaking the tyres in oil. There are a few things that you can do to improve cornering that won't cost anything, just a little time. PM if you are serious.

Cheers, Greg

Hi

For the last run at Marulan we fitted some Federal 595RS-R tyres to my sons 1303, they were a huge improvement over the previous performance street tyres we had fitted. http://www.federaltyres.com.au/specs/ss595.pdf

The beauty of these tyres are that they are OK for regular street driving, good in the wet, they were reasonably priced, $206 for 215/45x17s, I imagine 15s would be cheaper, they get aggressive when hot.

These are the same tyres that were used on the Beetle in the Motor Magazine $10K challenge. Call V Force to get more info on them 02 9743 1247

You will have a ball and you will placed with other cars of about the same road speed and travelling the same direction, usually. So it will be safer than driving on the highway to get there.

Greg is the man to listen too on setting up your car, extra weight is just extra weight.

Steve
