Been to see the boys at Bond Roll Bars. They will make a nice strong 6 point cage, but with decent brake drums, (yes, I'm sticking with drums),
hopefully it will never be needed!
Picked up the 'donor' car from Steve Muller, and now it's just a matter of time, as they say.
Cheers, Greg
Excellent news Greg - great to hear the "getting back on the horse" process is moving along.
PLEASE tell me you're going for basically the same look as the old No 8 ???

Hope to get as close as possible to the 'old, blackish' look. I'd like to keep the car like the one I raced in the early '60s - Link pin,
swing-axle, drum brakes, skinny wheels, etc. OK, I'm 'old-school', but it's my car! (If I knew how to put one of those smiley faces here I
would)!
Cheers, Greg
good work fella!
What yr is the donor car? wats the plans?
Is that 'old school' or just 'old' Greg. (Smiley /laughing face from menu left of the box while writing text)
Thank you for yesterday stopping by and having a chat really enjoyed it,don't have many car chats anymore since my Dad past.I forgot to show you we
still have the old Mac rack you designed and made in the 80's.
Cheers Chris
Greg
I edditted yr pos tand added some smilllllleeess
hey greg, what sought of dosh did they want for a 6 point....
and good to see you are straight into it, hope im doing that when im a old bugger..........
Great stuff......
the good thing about the number 8........it looks the same upside down !
Craig. You funny.
Good to see you are getting back on track and that 'oldskool" will continue to rule.
countrybuggybill
Hi Bill,
Mind if I stick to the 'old-school' spelling of 'oldskool'? Wouldn't that be REALLY old-school? There ya go, I did it!
Cheers, Greg
Greg,
We have been around so many years I reckon that we can spell it any way we would like.
I think it is great you want to keep the #8 black ball rolling. Going back to standard beetle fits the ageing criteria as well.
Cheers,
Bill.

Yeah Bill, would you mind re-phrasing that!

The rebuild is going - although I haven't really got a 'plan'. While the 'new' shell is at Redistrip (hope there will be some left when the rust
is gone), I've been checking and straightening the frame etc. All pretty good, considering, and the Type 3 rear drums that I will be using have
tidied up nicely. Hope to pick up what's left
of the body next week, along with the Bond roll cage - then the 'fun' starts!Unlike some people on here, I won't need a heater, so I can be a bit creative with the sills.
Managed to find some 'old' black paint - want keep the 'blackish look' if possible.
Cheers, Greg
Greg,
Make sure you post lots of photos for us to follow your progress, was great meeting up with you at RAW the other week
Hi Greg, really great to hear you're getting back into the thick of it. I was at Wakefield Park back in May and was really enjoying your driving b4
the incident - very entertaining!! I snapped a few photos of the 'ol number 8 during your laps, if you want me to email them to you spear me a PM
with your email and I'll shoot them through to you for the photo album.
Thanks,
Kris.
Thanks Kris, PM sent.
Cheers, Greg

Thanks for posting pics
Like your ideas Greg with the lower stiffining rails...should work a treat, and nice and light .
And going later door locks so the door don't fly open if things turn to shit.
Greg, lets not find out if this is a myth or not
Kev
Thanks for helping out with the pics, Shaun. Glad your car seems a
bit better.
Kev, I have no intentions of continuing as 'Test Pilot', thanks.
The re-build is progressing - as per pics - and with the roll cage, and other body-strength improvements, should be much stronger,- but heavier.
Cheers, Greg
I also went around on saturday, there was alot of rust in this car but greg is fixing it up. This car is gunna be a very nice car o watch go around the track.
Looking good Greg
at least you have saved another VW from rusting away.
