Fire Extinguishers

Whats the best way to mount the extinguisher to the car?

I'm thinking of putting it just behind the handbrake but am not sure how to mount it.

Cheers

Shaun

What car

My 75L has 3 point seats and there is a "hump" at the front perpendicular to the tunnel
So it its just under the seat out of the way and easily reachable

For CAMS events, scrutineers will often require that the fire extinguisher is accessible by the driver while still strapped in... can you reach it behind the handbrake ??? That's not actually written in the rules btw - but arguing with a scruit is never a good idea....

http://camsmanual.com.au/pdf/10_gen_req/GQ09_Schedule_H_Q210.pdf

For my money the "best way" is on the floor just in front of the seats... drill through the pan, some nice strong M8 bolts with reinforcing plates on the underside of the pan to prevent 'em pulling through.

Fire extinguishers are heavy, and 25g is A LOT of force...

cheers, yeah in front of the seat would be better for ease of mounting, I had it there before and though maybe not but now that i'm 100% sure that the car won't be registered on full road plates again i'm not that precious about changing "comfort" levels or ergonomics (sadly though that means no cupholders.... believe it or not our recently sold astra had no cupholders and the bug did!)

Being able to reach the fire extinguisher while strapped in would very much limit the placement of the extinguiser..... I know I definately couldnt reach it below the front seat when I'm strapped into my manx

passenger side floor for better weight distribution.

Shaun, it's a piece of safety equipment (not ballast!)...so make sure you can reach it when you REALLY need it. Think 'worse case' scenario's, like if you were trapped in your seat and you had a cabin fire :tu:

I have mine in front of the gear lever...

but I read on here about the extinguisher coming loose in a roll over etc...
so, al fire extinguisher needs a good strong clamp...

and make sure you know how to take it out of the clamp..
lol

they all seem to be different... and tricky...

cheers

yes it should be placed where it is easily reached, as cams stipulates, but a bit of thought in placement can help your lap times too. craig just wants an arguement:lol:

Nothing to argue about ........I've just seen several accidents where the driver couldn't reach the extinguisher easily.

I doubt that 1kg moved 500mm to the left will increase lap times, but each to their own

Craig, that 1 kg becomes 2....-1 from RH side and +1 LH side......
