I'll be running the Rally Beetle with a shiny new exhaust. That's got to make it go faster!

hey snap crackle bang, got any pics of said beetle?

matberry - October 8th, 2010 at 04:01 PM

There are a few photos of my Rally Beetle on the 2010 Bug In thread. That's in the 2010 events section of the forum. It's the yellow/black/pink/primer colored beetle with "A Bug's Life" stickers on it.

Unfortunately this Saturday's Autocross has been cancelled due to the weather.
I was really looking forward to finding out how much better the beetle goes with the new Pertronix dizzy and new exhaust.

Thats great news, I was wanting to get the car out but have the tranny out of my bus/towcar atm for a rebuild. Keep us informed whether another is going to be run.

Snap Crackle Bang - October 12th, 2010 at 12:43 PM

There will be an Autocross in November.

Mat, I'd like you to see my beetle in action and chat over any ideas about finding a few more horses.
I'll be swapping this engine into an L bug and might need to compensate for the extra weight.
I only want enough power to keep up with 300hp falcadores. 130 to 140 should be heaps.

Cheers

I hope to make the November meet. Be happy to have a chat and definately like to check out your car.
How's the track regarding size of bumps, I have the low beam in the car from Warwick?

Snap Crackle Bang - October 13th, 2010 at 12:44 PM

Mat, I figure by talking business we can make your entry a legitimate business expense for tax purposes!

There should not be any big bumps, but you don't want to be set up too stiff. Last time there was a gentle lump (about 50mm high and 1m long) on one of the corner apexes which upset some of the cars.
Sometimes there are loose stones on the surface, but the 4 wheel drives sweep them off pretty quickly.
My rally beetle is essentially a novelty car, it just happens to be quick. The L bug shouldl be more of a wolf in sheep's clothing.

The next exent will be 14th of November.

Thanks mate, sounds great.

Novelty car....:spin:....mine too

TheMiniMan - October 14th, 2010 at 11:27 PM

yeah i even had spot lights & tail/brake lamp fitted to my buggy in ready-ness , Bugga!

an well,,, at least i got my diff back from being repaired,,, i broke it a few meetings back , figured it just worn in a bit quick

Looking at having it all back in & running this weekend , ready for the (hopfully) last "Pre-Log_Book Scuitneering" check over next week.

matberry - November 10th, 2010 at 10:23 PM

Hey Snap, looks like I won't be making this event, some parts have been delayed for getting my car ready, Noosa Hillclimb is on down the road from me so I will go there for a fix, Miniman's going to be up here too. Good luck, be there next time to race and check out your car.

Snap Crackle Bang - November 11th, 2010 at 08:30 PM

That's understandable Mat. I'd probably head to Noosa if the sprint wasn't on the same weekend. There is also an event on at Lakeside by the Italian car clubs which sounds pretty good.

This will be my first run with the shiny new Pertronix billet dizzy and stainless exhaust.
I'm planning to retire the rally Beetle after this dirt sprint, that way I'll have to get the L Bug finished before next year's season starts.

Cheers
