Finally got some good drums on. Not a huge job, but not just a bolt-on either.
The pedal feels good, but I need to get to the track - when it stops bloody raining - to bed the new linings in. When's the next track day?

hi, its got standard 1962 kg rears and fronts . i was gonna put discs on the front.

Haven't taken it to the track yet, Dave. The Cooper Porsche was had a run last week, and it probably will be next year now for No.8.

grogy.......Maybe a matched set of discs all round would be your best bet? Good 356 brakes are VERY hard to find, and VERY expensive, and you may have
trouble with front/rear balance.
Dave........The Wakefield day was for bedding in brakes, adjusting brake bias, and generally settling the car (and the driver) in. No quick laps.
Lance.......NOT TRUE, the T5 will be doing the towing. Funny though, that
you should mention tow bars on Beetles. When I first started racing a Beetle (1961), there was the old wheel tramp to overcome. The tow bar of the day
attached to the torsion-bar tubes, the 2 BIG fork bolts, and the rear bumper, so I fitted one. I also made up a mounting for the rear of the engine
(near the oil pump). It worked. A bolt through the front rubber
trans. mount, with a Nyloc nut helped,too. It looked like a Vanilla Slice that had been squeezed a bit too hard!

A number of reasons, I suppose.
The original drums were badly worn, so I fitted after-market drums - BIG mistake (see 'Brake drum warning' thread).
I wanted to keep the '1959 appearance', so the disc option wasn't really on (I'm a bit stubborn).
Having three other cars with 356 drum brakes, and knowing the bloke who had the set for sale that I fitted to the Beetle, made the choice easier.
Hope you don't think that I'm trying to 'put you off' 356 brakes. They are very good, and if that's what you want, just do it - but be prepared
for the work and cost involved.

not at all. i also was thinkin of the appearance and maybe thought the setup would be quite light. i heard of a set of drums for 250 and also heard u can get em resleaved. im not totally sure yet but i like to chose an option i would be staisfied with so i didnt want to change again. it costs money if u not satisfied. thanks greg
