The first two (x 2) of the NSW Hillclimb Championship kick off this weekend at Mt Panorama Bathurst.
Day 1 - Sat 26th Feb - The Esses
Day 2 - Sun 27th Feb - Mountain Straight
9:00am start both days.
A few VW's going including Colin Mayman and is immaculate super, Glen Torrens 'Wrecker racing', Greg Wards monster 70's, Heath Campbell in his
garfield 68 and last time I spoke to Ben Durie, there was a chance his rapid bug might make the trip too. Plus the VW open wheelers like Peter Gumley
vw supercharged beast and the Fvees. Unfortunately my car is just not quite ready so I wont be running. Good luck everyone and kick some ricer ar$e.
good luck boys.....
cant wait to see lots of video footage... hint hint.....
How safe is my record for the Esses climb
Danny
I'd say it will be well and truely safe
Glad I saw this thread again - I unexpectedly had to work in Orange today, but have just finished and about to head to my brothers place is Sydney - If I pull my finger out packing up, I reckon I may be able to catch the last bit of today's action on my way through Bathurst.

so which car/class is Greg running?
Greg is running his 'new' car and is running it as a Sport Sedan. Although there is not much sport sedan to it apart from the rear fibreglass guards. It chassis is still the way Paul ran it including tyres (treaded), suspension etc. The only thing that changed was the colour and read guards.
was the sports sedan as quick as the other Beetles ?
Can you post all the vw times for all 4 runs please ?
I the the record is around 29.???
What a great weekend was had by all the Beetle racers at Mount Panorama Bathurst.
After travelling Friday from Tamworth we set up camp on the mountain and discussed our aspirations for the first day.
After quiet a few beers with Glen Torrens (i swear he was trying to get me pissed) we went to bed and rose early to be greeted with a fantastic
day.
The esses was Round 1, and we all ripped in early, with some quick times.
Heath posted a 29.85 sec time which proved to quick for myself or Glen to catch but i tryed awfull hard and managed a p/b of 30.09 sec to claim second
in class.
Glen improved all day with a best of 36.02sec.
Greg Ward raced hard in the Sports Sedan class smashing his rivals with a class winning time of 30.15sec. it was great to se him launch at thr start
line, his car has some real grunt. Potential is the key word for Greg.
A familiar trend was set that evening with Glen and myself with the beers.Next morning things looked very dodgy weather wise and our first run up the
fastest hillclimb in Australia was raining.
You,ll se in the footage i post later how wet it was, in the dry it is scary at speed, in the wet!. Shit i was glad to see the finish line.
Again Heath set the pace and was never headed winning in a time of 54.61sec. I got pipped for second by a turbo Datto with my best being 56.43sec.
Glen again was grinning like a idioy having a blast with his best being a 66.84sec.
Again Greg smashed his opposition with a very slick and fast time of 55.28sec which in a new, zero developed car is an amazing effort.
A few point of interest,
There was 80 cars listed in Round 1 The esses, Heath was 17th outright, myself 20th.
take out the formula libre cars and just count tin tops, Heath 5th myself 8th fastest tin top. Not bad for a couple of old Beetles.
Heath data logged a run which told him mid corner at the dipper he was travelling at 93k,s.
I have lots of footage and photo,s to put up in the coming days so be patient and enjoy.
Cheers Col

I got there for the last 2 runs on Saturday afternoon, but found out that my camera skills when zoomed on moving cars are sadly lacking at this
stage.
Was great to see the bugs angry though
Seems I need to try harder to get to these things and practice more.
Well done guys. What a great showing. Finally the cream of the crop in VW hillclimbs all together. It's a shame Nathan wasn't there. His green bug
would look great in that shot.
It would've been good to see Ben Durie too. Or maybe Jeff Unwin out of retirment?????
Super cool stuff.
Thanks for pics and vid.
Saturday looked like a spectacular day in lovely Bathurst.

As mentioned earlier our first run on Sunday was in the rain which was pretty dam scary at speed.
Check out the spray of the back of the car, i,m travelling at approx 120-130k,s in 4th gear through there, hanging on with my butt cheeks
puckered.LOL.
Cheers Col
Nice vids, thanks.
