Round 4 NSWHCC Tamworth New footage added 26/05/11
colin - April 24th, 2011 at 04:36 PM

Tamworth Sporting Car Club will host round 4 of the NSWHCC on the weekend of 14-15th of May at Oakburn Motorsport Complex.
Tamworth Hillclimb is run on a Go-Kart circuit similar to Grafton Hillclimb with car setup and handling being critical to a good time.
A number of racers and their Beetles have allready indicated there intention to compete at this event. Spectators are well catered as you can view the complete track from the viewing mounds.
Tamworth allways produces close times and personally i will be having a red hot go at trying to beat Heath in his flying orange Beetle.
See you all there.

Cheers Col

Bugger. I am travelling through Tamworth a few times most weekends at the moment, on my way from Parkes to Port Macquarie and back, but that weekend I have a work thing on in Newcastle.
Can't take a trick sometimes.

your car looks very tough col.....

After some quality time in my cave today the car is ready for Tamworth Hillclimb.

I made some changes to the setup of the car to suit the tight slow corners of Tamworth.

I have also reset the timing which i beleive will claw back my missing hp from my time on the dyno in Feburary.

I even treated the car to a polish so she should be both quicker and shineyer than before LOL.

Will update when i know more but can confirm Greg Ward and Glen Torrens will be competing, and hopefully Heath Campbell.

A Datto now leads our class in the points so this will have to be addressed pronto.

Cheers Col

All that's left to do is Baygon the glovebox!

Kick arse Col. It's your home track.

Great day of practice was had by all. Colin, Greg, Glen and Heath are entered in the bugs. Both Colin and Heath went under the existing improved production track record. That in its self is an achievement considering the old record was set later in the year when the track and outside temp is a hell of a lot warmer then the current temp of -2 this morning. That just shows the car prep, development and the skill of both Col and Heath. They have both set the bench mark for some quick times on race day today. GT was throwing around the wrecker racer like he was the 'Stig' driving a Mclaren F1. Greg was having a ball in his monster bug, driving the track like a speed way. Gregs times were improving through out the day and considering he had never been there before, he looks on par for another great result in the sport sedan class on race day.

I know Greg finally as the new on board go pro 'race cam' working and I believe Col was going to take some footage from the side line as well. So hopefully we will have some footage to share later.

Good luck everyone and kick some ar$e.

A great weekend of racing was had by all.
As Nathan reported Saturday was cold in the morning and cool all day.
Heath and i practised hard and got under the record which was very encouraging for Sunday.
The day started very cold -4 but warmed up to a balmy 19 so still cool but fine.
I had a gearbox problem which plagued me all day so unfortunatly i could only post a best of 36.8 on Sunday, for a second in class. Very frustrating to say the least when on Saturday i did a 36.3.
Heath however was on fire with a best of 36.00 for a new class record and class win, a super effort by the Aussie Champ.
Glen was driving very hard and showing some of the locals how to drift a beetle onto the main straight. Sorry i can,t remember Glens best time or class position.
Greg Ward gets the award for consistently smoking the rear tyres at the start line. CT get ready for a phone call for another set of fresh Yokies. He also smashed his rivals and took the class win his best a 37.1 from memory.
I will try and post some pics and footage later.

Cheers Col

Pics /Vids?? Need Inspiration!

Craig Torrens - May 18th, 2011 at 09:50 PM

yeah we want Vids :tu:

bat69 - May 19th, 2011 at 08:38 AM

Vids are coming. They just take forever to down load..

Here is a sneak peak at a photo snap shot from one of the videos taken from the rearward facing camera on Greg Wards bug. Unfortunately I had to shrink the photo and its lost a bit of quality, but as you can see he's laid about 20m of 215 sticky Yohahama rubber off the start line..Do you get the drift!!!!!!

Videos will be posted within the week.

Here is the only vid i have thanks to my wife Tracey.
I threw her the camera and said do your best, this is her first attempt at vidoes.
Background noise is a Motorcross event, damn noisey and dusty.

Here is some footage taken from the rear of Greg Wards car at Tamworth Hillclimb.
Apologies for the poor sound quality this is the first time Greg used the Gopro camera, looking for better footage next time.
Check out the tyre marks from the start line and the blue tyre smoke everytime Greg nailed the throttle, wouldn,t want to be one of Gregs rear tyres would you!.

Cheers Col

Craig Torrens - May 24th, 2011 at 10:00 PM

Its more like all or nothing !!!

Craig Torrens - May 25th, 2011 at 08:43 AM

thats Gregs right foot, he's been like that for 2 decades.......he drives with it either flat to the floor or off !

This is the final footage Greg has asked me to post.
A big thankyou to Greg for not only taking the time and effort to produce this footage but for flying the VW Motorsport flag at the State Hillclimb events this year.

Cheers Col
