Grafton Sporting Car Club will host round 5 of the Hillclimb Championship at there Mountview Complex on the weekend 11th and 12th June.
Practice begins at 12pm on Saturday through to 4pm with racing starting at 9.30am on Sunday.
Personally i really enjoy this weekend as there are excellent facilitys for both competitors and spectators and the freindly atmosphere on Saturday
evening camping is brilliant.
Glen Torrens will not be attending this round but Greg Ward will, in his mega blue missile, as will Heath Campbell and myself.
My parents are a maybe for coming so if anyone can offer to shoot some footage with my camera as a back up plan please find me on the day,(pretty easy
black fat Super).
Cheers Col
i`d love to come along, but sadly i don`t think my buggy will be ready in time :-(
Have fun
Good luck Col.
Do me a favour. Can you convince the author if the race report to not start it with "A good time was had by all...."?
Perhaps something along the lines of; "The weekend ended with the Datsun camp putting For Sale signs on their cars after the VW brigade wiped the
floor with them again...."
Or maybe: "Col's black beauty overcomes the mechanical gremlins of the previous round to set a new class record ..."

hey you guys vws can go fast on a circuit as well when are you all going to show up for the vw nationals
What Paul said.the nats would be alot better if the hillclimb boys showed up.
Congratulations to everyone.
For the first time in a very very long time tin top sedans filled the first 3 outright places at a State Hillclimb. And all the top 3 positions were
Imp Pro cars.. It was pi$$ing down rain and the beetles matched it with the 4WDs and open wheelers. Actually they smashed them.
1st outright - Stuart Inward - Nissan GTR Skyline
2nd outright - Scott Tutton - Mitsubishi Evo 2
3rd outright - Heath Campbell - VW Beetle (WOW!!!)
6thoutright - Colin Mayan - VW Beetle
7th outright - Christine Campbell - VW Beetle
Go the bugs. Mixing it with the big HP 4WD's in the wet. Congrats guys and girl.
That is cool
Been looking at the rain radar on and off all day, and was wondering how you guys went - it looked like it has been flogging down most of the time
since lunchtime yesterday.
Well done.
Race Report Grafton Hillclimb
Just for CT,
Rain equaled mayhem for most of the competitors last weekend but not the mighty Beetle racers as they dominated not only there class but the top 7
outright, yes no typo outright positions.
Saturday was practice with very grey skies overhead and cold conditions and track temperatures. I quickly found out my tramping issue was not solved
but worse so i could only walk the car of the line even getting tramp as i changed into third gear. Even so i managed to get within 1/2 a second of my
pb. Encouraging given my split to the first timing was 2 seconds slower!.
Rain fell all night and just got harder and harder as the day progressed on Sunday. After the first run I was 1st Outright and very pleased hoping
they would now call off the event LOL. After 2 runs Heath claimed 1st outright with myself close behind. The AWD and 4WD boys were close but still we
dominated. After 3 runs Heath was still fastest outright competitor for the day, and there were a few people shaking there heads muttering dam
volksies.
On the 4th and final run Heath tightened the crotch strap and posted a time of 59.83 to eventually claim 3rd outright for the day behind 2 mega
horsepower AWD and 4WD cars.
I can,t speak for Heath and i hope he posts something about his drive but personally his drive is one of the best i have seen for a very long time of
any driver of any car. A truly remarkable effort.
Final times are as follows
1st in class Heath 59.83, 3rd Outright
2nd in class Col 62.24 6th Outright
3rd in class Christine(Heaths wife) 62.28 7th Outright
Next event is Cooperbung, 3 weekes.
I have pulled the engine today and a dodgy split banana mount is looking like the tramping problem.
Cheers Col

Here is the only footage from Grafton Hillclimb i have.
There was no-one around so i was lucky to get this.
Check out how hard the rain was falling, it never let up all day.
I was trying hard too, maybe a little to hard.
Cheers Col
So Heath are you coming to Noosa in three weeks?
Awesome results guy's. Gotta love a wet track.
Congrats on the results guys!! Top effort!!
Congrats boys. Top tuning and top driving.
