Beetle vs golf mk2 Hillclimb (track)
satori - September 18th, 2011 at 10:42 PM

Hey Guys. I just spent the last few days watching the Adelaide targa, some very cool cars. No dubs though. Any thoughts on what would be a better track - hillclimb car between a golf mk2 and a Beetle and cost difference for set up. I wouldnt mind slowly fixing a car for hillclimb racing and have been toying between the 2. thanks

That would depend on a lot of factors! I think that the two are fairly evenly matched in many ways. They're obviously different beasts. My choice out of the two would be the Beetle, but the engines are expensive to extract horsepower from. Either car could be made to go quickly, but it depends really on which one you would prefer. I would say that the Beetle will have more natural traction for accelerating off the line, but the Golf is a better starting point for handling in the corners. When it comes to cost, how long is a piece of string? Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?

Do ur homework on both and look at costing, value for money$$$

Or do what JVL is doing and add a golf and a beetle together!!

as other people have said it all depends on how serious you want to get, development of a bug to make it win will take time and money, on a pure "add race stickers" factor the golf would come out in front I would suspect.
