HappyDaze - February 6th, 2012 at 11:18 AM

Looking at getting some better tyres for No. 8 Beetle, and thought these look OK......anyone used them?

Cheers,

Greg

I think CT is using them in the Neovas cup funnily enough; reported not as good as the proper Advans I believe

Probably better than worn Vee slicks though...

Cheers

Hi Greg,

People have been doing some impressive times on the ADVAN Neovas. I love them. I ran them on my VW Jetta before the beetle.

When I was down at Wakefield on Australia Day a guydid a 1:05 in his Evo on them.

All I could manage was a 1:17.1 but I didn't get comfortable with the car, and it felt gut-less.

They're usually about 1.5 seconds slower than the ADVAN A050 which is about the best R-spec tyre at the moment.

The Neovas are not a soft compound tyre. They're a clever compound tyre. The deal with the heat and they're very difficult to wear out, especially on a beetle.

I'm running a slightly odd combination:
Front 175/55R16 ADVAN Neova AD07 off a Lotus
Rear 205/45R16 ADVAN Neova AD08

The fronts are about 4 years old and are my road tyre. The rears are new. Turn-in is great but I was getting more understeer exiting the fish hook and onto the front straight than normal. It could be the narrow tyre and / or the pressure being too high. It's too early to tell.

Pressure-wise I started high (30 cold) then dropped them down to 30 hot. The front was still too hot in the centre so I dropped them to 27 hot but didn't get time to test them as it rained, then I ran out of fan belts : (

I reckon I could do a low 1:16 with them; but I drive like a girl compared to you, Greg.

They come in a few 15 inch sizes but the OD is kind of small.

Sizes
185/55R15
195/55R15
205/50R15

If you decide on them Greg, it would be great to see you kicking some butt in the ADVAN Neova Cup (Click on the link)

There are some photos of the circuit club day here http://flic.kr/p/bnCQ2n

I hope that helps.

Regards CT

I havent used them, but a lot of the EVO guys say they are a good road tyre. I think if you are after a track tyre there's better options out there.

Thanks fellas.....this is what I'm after, first-hand [or even second-hand] info. Much better than what the tyre blokes tell you.:tu:

195/60 would be perfect if any R spec tyres came in that size!
