Sydney VW Drags - Shootout 2013 Update CANCELLED
VWMA Editor - January 17th, 2013 at 10:02 PM

Hi All,

Registrations are now open for Round 1 of the VWMA 2013 drag racing series at Sydney on February 23rd. Entries must be received by VWMA no later than Friday February 15th.

Sydney Dragway have offered the Volksies their own day again this year based on the impressive numbers for the first event. As long as the VW drag racing community in Australia continues to support the series, then events like Sydney and Warwick will stay on the calendar.

Please visit http://www.vwma.net.au  for all the details.

Cheers
Craig

Good idea.
This will give spectators reason to plan their journey in advance
if their favourite car is running.

I am entering but always like to wait until
my test and tune is telling me everything is tip top.

Hi All,

Vintage VeeDub Supplies is proud to support the Dash For Cash again in 2013 (see below). Nobody came close last year - maybe this time around someone can top-up their account? Ian and Rose Automotive have also thrown some coin into the pot with $300 for the best RT (see below).

As per last year, gate passes can be collected from me at the track on Friday after 3pm or they will be waiting for you at the gate on Saturday morning. Your gate pass is needed at scrutineering to confirm that you are a paid competitor and will be swapped for an arm band to go racing. It's important then that you visit the VWMA trade stand before scrutineering. The VWMA trade stand will this year be set up behind the scurtineering bays (saves my legs) and all your driver requirements will be located there.

I hope your car preparations are coming along. Due to the commitments of running the event, I'm stepping away from driver duties this year, but the VWMA team will still be fielding a car with Grahame Rumballe driving. Not the dragster yet, but another project car currently under construction in the workshop.

Driver entries and crew must be paid for by Friday 15th February (only two weeks away!!). Information and online entries can be found at http://www.vwma.net.au

VWMA Editor - February 12th, 2013 at 10:35 AM

Hi All,

Less than one week to register for racing and just under two weeks to the day. Registrations close this Friday 15th February so please get them in early if you intend to compete. Please pass the word around to those who may not be on the email list or forums. The entry list already looks impressive with a number of new cars competing. All the same, I'd like to see the numbers increase by Friday to guarantee the future of the event so don't be shy and/or pull your spanner out and finish the beast!! We've been offered a unique opportunity with Sydney so let's not drop the ball.

The proposed programme for the day can be found at Volkswagen Magazine Australia. © 2013. Note, this is not chiseled in stone and can be altered by the hour to suit conditions, etc. Use as a guide. Generally, the programme runs 90% as intended. The PA will be operational this year, which will help unnecessary waiting in the staging lanes and the VWMA stand will be nearer to the scrutineering bays to avoid unnecessary walking on my part.

Good news for those staying at the track on Friday night - the gates will remain open until 10pm. This will also allow those wishing to cruise to Dino's Pizzas the opportunity to do so. Please do not stretch the friendship beyond this time. Only drivers and registered crew may camp at the track (unless other arrangements have been made directly with me). No vehicles are to be driven at night within the Sydney complex unless entering or exiting the facility. RC drag cars are an exemption. Ensure you have plenty of portable shelter as there is none provided at the track, and power is available at designated poles.

Please also check the website for an update on helmet specs - Snell SA2000 and Snell M2000 are no longer allowed for cars 10.99 seconds or quicker, but I have removed these helmets altogether to avoid any confusion on the day. If you follow these guidelines there should be no need to visit the local store for a new helmet.

I'll have another update at the end of the week and one beginning next week before the event. Best of luck with your preparations (I'm still waiting on my ECU to arrive….).

94 entries last year, 26 this year, and the cut of was tonight the 15th !!!

There are about 10 times as many people read VWMA than are members on AVD,
so I would not worry about entries.

Here are some more names that I am sure are entered:
Henry Spicak
Mark Calus?
Peter Keegan?
Ross Freestone?
Wally Penboss
David O'Connor
Mike Kristen
Rod Penrose
Wayne Penrose's Crew
Peter Page
Darren and Shane Hobson
and plenty more I am sure.
