Porsche Powered 59 Drag Split Screen
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - April 29th, 2013 at 10:04 PM

As some of you know my family is renowned for doing things with Volkswagens that are a little on the eccentric side of things. So here is the next crazy car to hit the track soon!!

My cousin Scott's latest project is a 59 Split screen that is going to be channeled, roof chop and gutted to become basically a tube chassis Split screen drag bus. Powered by a 3.5L Porsche 6 making approx 400HP from an offroad tube chassis race car it will be using a superbug torsion housing and an early beetle K & L front beam. The car was a rust bucket and needed one hell of a lot of work which Scott couldn't justify in doing so decided instead of scraping it he would save the old girl and bring her back to life as a drag bus!!

So far he has cut 6" out off the bottom of the bus and is now in the process of finishing off the new sills. Once that is finished he will begin on the 3" roof chop cutting through all pillars and modifying the windscreens to eliminate the roof overhang at the front. After that is completed he will then be beginning on the chassis side of things.

Aim is to have it on the track and running at warwick minus cosmetic stuff like paint etc so the well worn patina look will remain till all bugs are ironed out so to speak then it's getting a paint job etc etc.

Here are some pics so far...

You can say that again Matt!! Daniel is building a Split drag bus as well. Full autocraft engine with 910's i think and turbo set up from sand rail. 450 odd HP!! He beat me to buying the gearbox Rod Penrose had for sale!! We will see if these 2 can give Aaron some competiton!! Not quite as much HP but a LOT less weight!! Scott is also planning on throwing 2 turbo's on the porsche donk once he gets a handle on the car.

All the progress on this car has happened in less than 20 odd hours of work!!

Scott is doing the majority of this build but the family is contributing with my uncle and his brother in law doing some work on it as well as cousins throwing some weight behind it to see it through And on the track!!

Might just have an Alder in every category in the vwma drags series if not this year them definately next year!!
