As some of you are aware already , I have purchased myself another toy from Florida USA , a VW Dragster with a turbocharged type-1 engine &
Autocraft 4-speed transmission .
I will share with you some pics & history about the dragster , along with the progress in development & our goals .
I purchased the dragster in December 2012 and it arrived at WPVW in early May 2013 .
The dragster was purchased from Warren Hill in Florida (off the Samba website) and Warren has been very helpful in assisting me getting the dragster
here to Australia . Warren has given me this brief history of the dragster .....
the original owner of the dragster was David Grayson. David Grayson had the dragster built for him by Bill Rathbun and he ran it for several years up
and down the East Coast , then it was sold to Darrell Gordon of Ohio which he keep it for about two years , then sold it to Steve Shook of Texas .
Steve ran the dragster for about three years and retired , then the dragster was sold to Pat Fox in Louisiana which he had for about a year and
decided that he wanted a sedan , so Pat and Warren made a deal for his sedan , and then the dragster came to me .
The dragster is now in Australia & part of Team WPVW
the dragster was shipped from Florida to California , then to Sydney
after picking up the dragster , we lifted it on one of our hoists for a thorough inspection . The chassis looks perfect , the body great , changed the
oils in the engine and transmission , replaced the stripped crank pulley bolt , tightened various other loose bolts , replaced 1 pushrod , adjusted
the tappets , repaired stripped exhaust threads , charged the battery , filled with fuel (102 ulp) , by-passed original fuel pump as it would not work
, installed a Holley Blue fuel pump and fired-up the engine .
Sounds Ok , but heads are leaking ....
the exhaust outlet pipe from the turbo & the wastegate pipe are both removed to be modified & plumbed together . The exhaust outlet is also
fitted with a crucifix as per ANDRA requirements
The body panels are all removed for preparation & paint
Wilwood inboard disc brakes at the rear on live axle , reduction drive starter , chassis-shop bellhousing extension , butterfly steering wheel , vertical gate in-line shifter , custom race pedals
very light rack & pinion steering . We found that the left king-pin had seized so we disassembled , cleaned & lubed it .
Phil @ signtism designed our new graphics and shows us how it will look ....
I also remove the left side plate from the wing assembly so that we can push out 2 very large dents that were at the rear
the body panels are all painted in black as a base for our graphics , then Phil applys all of the graphics for us
the original Demon carburettor that was running on pump fuel has been replaced with the 675cfm methanol Demon from Ben Fords' supercharged drag bug
as Ben is upgrading to injection . A new stainless steel scoop is purchased for the carburettor
Our new dragster is then taken to the VW Nationals car show 2013 to be unveiled
on display at the 2013 VW Nationals show
back at WPVW and with the VW Nationals show over , Dean starts to disassemble the engine accessories in preparation for engine removal & rebuild before the VW drags on June 29 @ WSID .
Cool purchase Wayne.
What times had it run in the USA?

Killa!
Looks great Wayne...it will be great to see this run in Sydney. Will certainly be fun to drive.
What a cool 'new' car.... I'm sure the WPVW team will make very good uses of this lil' beastie!
Very nice!!!
Dean has removed the turbo and all associated plumbing , all wiring & oil hoses . The engine is now ready for removal , but I have decided to
leave it sit in the car until I have finished Chris Bolton & Ben Ford' engines .
I have also got to fabricate an engine nappy for the dragster so it will be easier without all of the accessories on it .
The new tyres have all arrived ..... fronts are the same size , however I have had some very good advice and gone 1.5" wider on the rear (thanks
Henry)
Man you got some big balls!! That will be an awesome ride with you're engine!!
You'll have every ones attention on the start line.
Way to go Wayne and crew.
Hi Wayne,
What is the wheelbase of the dragster?
