Hi All,
The 10th anniversary last year was a great weekend of racing and the record number of entries proved how much the Australian VW racing community
values the opportunity to gather at Warwick for the two day event. The racing therefore continues this year, and registrations are now open for VW
Warwick 2016 on October 1st-2nd.
Mick Motors is the major sponsor again for 2016, and their enthusiasm for the event keeps the VW drag racing programme in this country alive and well.
Supporting Mick Motors and the weekend are Westside Mufflers, Sunset Safaris, Kustom Kombi, Rod Penrose Racing, Vintage VeeDub Supplies, Beach Buggy
Australia, Wayne Penrose Volkswagen, Leons Motors and Browns Plains Mechanical.
Sunset Safaris may be a new sponsor to the weekend, but not to racing, as the Alder Outlaws have made VW Warwick their annual family reunion. Scott
Alder and the team have introduced a new concept to the Top VW Shootout for 2016. There will now be two brackets - one for normally aspirated and one
for forced induction. Scott even created a special trophy for the new concept (pictured below). The two brackets will each have separate cutoff times,
and ideally each bracket will have 8 qualifiers. This will open up the opportunity for competitors to enter the Top VW Shootout, and certainly
increase the spectacle of the round robin competition on Sunday. The Top VW Shootout plates will be made and sponsored by Darren Hobson. Thanks
Darren.
Talking of competitors, first entry received for the event was from John ‘the Hat’ Barrett, but he was only in by the fur of his cap with Henry
Spicak clocking in shortly after. It’s good to see Henry back in the seat after his health scare, and I know he is looking forward to the
competition. Hot on John and Henry’s tail were Aron Heuston and Chelsea Mills - Chelsea is the first female driver to enter for 2016, and the number
of female drivers this year is expected to reach the double figures.
An additional programme feature will be the Diesel Tune Dyno event on Friday night at the the track. Diesel Tune will be bringing along their mobile
Dyno to run invited and guest VW drag cars, and the Dyno will be set up in the main marquee, which this year is a permanent shed structure erected by
the Warwick Dragway Club, made possible by government grants. There are also permanent toilets in the top pit area this year as well.
The dinner and breakfast package is available again, and will be catered by the same cooks as last year. It’s great food, excellent value and an
ideal way to enjoy the Saturday evening.

See you on the track.

The trophy created by the Alder Outlaws....
Hi All,
We are under the 4 week mark until VW Warwick 2016, so light up the workshop candles and get cracking on those race cars!
Volkswagen Genuine Parts has been an avid supporter of VWMA and the VW Warwick Drags since its inception. As part of their support, Volkswagen Genuine
Parts have supplied drivers competing at the VWMA drag racing series with a range of exclusive merchandise each year. This year Volkswagen Genuine
Parts have generously donated the much sort after Volkswagen Motorsport back packs and the 40th Anniversary Golf GTI caps to be given to each driver
competing at this years VW Warwick event. These are very special Volkswagen merchandise items that will add to the excitement of the weekend.
See you on the track.
Cheers

Ian
On the day is fine.
Hi All,
I hope your drag cars are coming together for the event. Burning the midnight oil is par for any motorsport event, and I’ve already had a few calls
regarding 11th hour entry pardons. I could write a book on the trials and tribulations of the VW drag racer - it would make for entertaining reading.
Entries close this Friday September 23rd for VW Warwick 2016. Entries can be made online at http://www.vwma.net.au
A reminder about the two final brackets for the Top VW Shootout, one for normally aspirated and one for forced induction. This new concept adds
another 8 cars into the Top VW Shootout finals, which therefore means an even greater opportunity for drivers who have always been on the cusp of the
cutoff. Just a little extra incentive to find a few more ponies from your engines.
See you on the track.
Cheers

Looking great for Saturday and Sunday
An early post to say that VW Warwick 2016 offered some of the best Volkswagen drag racing action I have been proud to be a part of. The new format of two top Shootout finals with an overall bragging rights decider worked a treat. Congratulations to Jason Frost for winning both the N/A Top Shootout bracket and Bragging Rights, and to Michael Holman for the F/I Top Shootout bracket. A full report and photos (trapnellcreations.com - Peter will have photos uploaded to his site this week) in the November issue and more updates over the next two weeks. Well done all.
Always a great weekend
Lovely weekend.
Great place to camp with the family and an awesome show put on right in the front of our fire pit!
