Hermann, Albins offroad gear makes any gear sets & diff centres you may need. Last time I bought 1&2 were about $650, 3&4 about $350 ea, & my billet bus superdiff was about $750....prob gone up in price by now. Google Abins Offroad Gear to find their good web site.
yes they are irs type 1 lsd diffs to suit t1 out put splines
we are looking at doing lsds to suit kombis in the future depends on demand
we had about 14 made so far with no breakages- in my own street beetle which weights more than stock its done 3 years of drags[11.8], hillclimbs ,
burnouts and plenty of street miles with no probs.
they look like a work of art its a pity to hide it.
they are alot stronger than a quaife in the output spline [where quaifes break] the guy that makes them guarantes them to over 500hp

Craig, one of our Kiwi customers just bought a Quaife swingaxle diff for NZ$1400, I dont know from whom. Thats pretty affordable I think. I know Glen Ruddick had a new one that he wasn't going to be using.

Hell yes! To make a comparison, if Arnold Shwartzenhiemer was a Quaife, Pewee Herman would be a ZF ! Not funny Craig?!...seriously, the ZF has gears like a watch, its just a matter of time.
for the last 22years i've only ever used factory zf diffs in all forms of motor sport with out a breakage, the swing axle zf lsd is by far one of the stronger set ups and can be converted to use cv's..I know bergs drag car used a 091 zf lsd with great success, glad to know that my german watch is still working. On a serious note any lsd is a step in the right direction if you enjoy driving
091 bus diff is a different story, but the spiders are still smaller than the open centers. Berg broke 2 ZFs while here in '95...not very cost effective. The ZF is brilliant in its design, but never designed to handle much power. If you dont break it then you either dont have power or you arn't trying hard enough. Apparently the swingaxle ZF (both versions) are much stronger than the IRS model, so dont worry Craig! Freestone has one in his car & had no probs.I would guess, (abuse aside) about 300hp would be a safe maximum, but not for the IRS type 1....more like 150 at best.
I have read about quaiffes being toasted, but this is the first time I have read about ZFs being not up to the task. Have you experienced failure with
one ?

Adrian, I am not sure what Berg broke, but it was probably the spiders. Mullers were able to supply some spares to him, but parts are rare(expensive).
The one that I had trouble with was an IRS type 1. The spiders are only about 20mm in diameter. Ths shafts, the gears, & the splines all failed or
were about to. It was in a 12 sec N/A super bug (muff, street tyres, fanbelt...heavy car) This is now the car that Dieter Holzl is driving. The
replacement Quaife had the 002 bus splines, so was much better. I have heard there are two different swingaxle ZFs with more, (or less) clutches. I
have not seen inside them to see the spiders,but theres not much room. Perhaps some other peorle can post their experiences. In my own car I have only
used super diffs, but non dragracers need an LSD so at least there options out there.

I broke the output splines on my IRS Quaife, it was my fault, I was at WSID, the start line official stopped me because there was some stuff on the
track, I thought I was in the water burnout area and I wasnt, I know doing burnouts with radials is of no use but I actually wanted to get a bit of
slip on the start line with the water still on my tyres to presverve the box.
I bought the upgraded Kombi output splines from Quaife, they are much beefier.

hi, i dont know much about these diffs but i need to do something to my 091 tranny,,, dont know either put a super diff? quaif or zf?
i will end up having about 550 hp at the wheels and in a bus. also were do you buy these and how much????

He has told me that they can take up to 500hp guarenteed. What are you building
that is going to have that much power? Why in a kombi? I would be more concerned about the gearbox in general.
